Since it appears every forum is locked except this, the Ryzom Ring, and the Guilds forums, I figured I'd ask here.

I went into my account options under Quick Links (edit options) and set it so that by default I could see all threads regardless of how old they are.

A lot of interesting guides and so forth in the other forums. I need to ask, how up to date are they? I saw a few that were 4 years old, but still relevent 2 years ago. (the gingo hunting one in this case) Is there anything that should be said, or anything that doesn't apply any more?

Another quick question, other than starting town, and starting fame, does picking any certain races have ANY effect on anything other than looking smexy?

It doesn't affect starting town. When you leave Silan you can choose which capital city to go to.

It does affect your magic resistances, but those can be altered and compensated for by jewelry.

as for guides themself most are semi useful even the outdated ones as they have the basics, however there is absolutly no substitute in this game for letting an experienced player help you and answer questions in game. There are some wonderful people within the community who love helping people so dont hesitate to ask.

Indeed, whether a guide is still up-to-date or not can only be judged by an experienced player on a case-by-case basis. A lot of things haven't changed at all since launch, but some other key things -have- changed.

It's probably usefull to read the guides anyways. Even the ones that aren't completely correct anymore are probably still mostly correct. But the only way to be sure whether something is still relevant is indeed to ask the players.
