High Level Content Proposal

From Terol:

I wanted to post this on Ryzom forum, but I still cant post there , so I will just ask what do you think about this idea I had a very long time ago.

Basically, the idea is to introduce caravan quests. Anyone who ever had to do a long trek with a Mektub, knows that it can be tricky, but a very fun experience. So imagine a quest, that would require you to transport a cargo with your mektub. A simple way to force you to use a mektub would be to have the cargo take more space than a humin can ever carry (and increase mektub carry limit to, lets say 550), and do a simple delivery quest.

For example, transporting a barrel of water from Fairhaven to Pyr. The best way to do so without throwing your computer screen through the window (trying to keep your mule alive in prime root is fun ^_^ ) is to do such quests in caravans. 10 people take the same quest, get their mektubs (and maybe some spare ones) and offer protection and support.

Just give some good rewards (mats, cats or unique items) and we have a new possible core content (if there is such thing in ryzom). Cool thing is that this shouldn't require a lot of coding, most of the gameplay mechanics is already in the game, it is basically a simple FedEx quest. There is much you can do with this idea, and I think it has a potential. What do you think?

I think its great, it also gives a sense of "pioneering spirit", like the wagon trains in cowboy movies, I would like that alot :)

Is this even worth discussing anymore? Ofcourse it would be great! ^^

One little thing: It's actually fairly easy for a mounted highlevel player to ride all around the world with a packer in tow, so these quests would have to somehow enforce that only slow packers can be used.

Make it so the weight ot the cargo slows down the packer while still possible to move and that the bulk is impossible to carry in a homin's bag. Problem fixed. ;)

Oh and, Unique items are not a quest reward in a game that relies so heavily on crafting. Unless the unique items are crafting plans.

Another suggestion : if the caravan is, for instance from Fairhaven to Pyr, make the mission giver a Tryker merchant and the receiver a Fyros merchant. Make the mission give a fame reward for BOTH races.

the unique items could also be goodies (fireworks-fancy hats/masks/clothes etc..)

I remember such events being held by players for fun - Bringing a karavan of mecktoubsfrom Zora to Fairheaven with many people accompanying :)

Indeed it was great fun. But with specific missions it will be simply awesome!
Cool suggestion Faa!

Nice idea.

It's similar to an idea posted by me in 2007, with the same subject (caravans) but related to Outposts.

http://forums.ryzom.com/showthread.php?t=30483

Maybe quests not OP related would be easier to implement.

Would be great to have this. :)

Catalysers are the safest option for reward, and fame of course.

I like this a lot although I have yet to find a packer that can keep up with my mount for some reason, so no need to weigh down the packer any extra, lol. As for rewards: I dunno if it would be impossible to code this or whatever, but an apropriate, apreciated and above all tempting reward would be that you get say a 10 or 20% increase in the bulk your packers can hold, rather like the focus boosts / durability boosts for some of the rites. I think a lot of homins would go for that :D That and the fame ofc
