Hey all, new to the game and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for a fighter/mage hybrid newbie starting his way into the game, any thing I should or shouldn't do?

Thanks

There are no classes in this game so you can learn all the skills with one character. In general I think it is safe to say all characters are hybrid.

As a fighter you want to focus on training your constitution and strength training, it is somewhat the general rule to always train those first to increase your HP and Stamina. Also if you have extra skill points to spare then train balance and metabolism –these help your stats regenerate faster. For magic you want to train intelligence and wisdoms to increase your sap reserve and sap regeneration.

I hope this helps a little. I’m new my self but this is what I’ve been able to learn so far. I’m sure others can correct me if I’m wrong or add more information.

Also, for melee, always upgrade your "Increased Damage" and "Accuracy" They will help you kill faster. Edit your stanza and combine them in the same attack.

For magic, you WILL want to play with the costs of your spells, especially reduce the casting time to make them faster. A spells is useless if it's so long to cast that it gets interrupted all the time. You will get some HP credits from some healing spells that can also be used in your offensive spells : use them ! Later on, you will be able to buy credits and effect stanzas independantly : do so, it will cost less SP than buying pre-made spells containing parts you won't want to use. ;)

And make sure to buy ALL the Intelligence/Strenght/Constitution you can get : otherwise, you might not be able to wear the last quest rewards from the mission givers.

And the furry gods know how every single SP is precious when you are capped at lvl 21.

That's all I can think about for now.

First, welcome to Ryzom. :)

It's indeed safe to say nearly all characters have both fight and magic skills. Generally though they'll never be using them both at the same time. This is because melee fighting is best done in heavy armor with a weapon in hand, and magic is best done in light armor with a magic amplifier in hand. And changing equipment takes too long to do in the middle of battle. So as to something you shouldn't do: Don't try to cast spells in heavy armor or without amplifiers, and don't try to tank when you're casting spells.

As for spending your precious first skill points, I agree with the others. Use your fight skill points to get the highest "constitution training", "strength training", "increased damage" and "accurate attack" you can get before anything else. For magic, get as much intelligence and wisdom as you can.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. :)

You can leave Silan as soon as you´ve done the last Mission for Chian the strong. Best level range to go is somewhere between 20 to 30, just my recommendation, others may disagree.
@Kalindra

I´m a bit disapointed ;)
Why do you tell the New Ones that they only need this?
There are so many other useful stanzas in the melee tree.
I for myself always find it pretty sad that many new players totally neglect the potential in those other ways to fight and just go for the "Hit it with the biggest stick" approach.
Attack after parry/dodge can be very useful, for example, pierce armor is extremely useful against certain mobs and in PvP (and that from me XD)
and hitting the head of Mob or Homin and making it bleed can save time or give you an opening to run from something that you may have trouble beating.
So, new Homins don´t just go for the max.dmg HUAAA! Action ;)
Try out the others as well and see that they have their uses too.
Remember, this isn´t any other game, it may suffice to hit the mob the hardest way possible two out of three times, but sometimes you´ll just need that bit of Stamina saved. ;)

There are no prerequisites for going to the mainland. One can leave Silan without doing any missions or gaining any levels, but new players are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the tutorials those missions embody.

You can leave by speaking to Chiang the Strong in the camp, on a hill with a small wooden tower.

Well, Acridiel, as I maybe forgot to mention, those are the first skills you buy at lvl 1-20 when you don't have multi branches to get those extra SP for the "bonus" stanzas. It's the very basics of the basics. When you have a couple melee branches, then you can afford the extra special effects. ;)
