Erg, move along, repeat topic without repeat circumstances, nothing to see here... :P

Just curious, as I know it's expensive to run one of these suckers. How much would folks pay per month to keep Ryzom alive?

Ah dangit. I lurk on these forums constantly. I don't know how the heck I missed /that/ thread not so long ago.

Sigh, back to my shadows. ;)

I chose the last option, but I'm not quite rich as the option suggests. If they would let me have Ryzom as a whole for $50,000 I will take it off their hands and will be more than willing to pay the remainder as the game runs. *hopes the new owners are reading* I must sound really cheap but I really can run the game without worrying about servers or hosting. I may be a young web developer and may need help developing the game, but I can run the game as is by myself just fine.

I have a co-location private rack in peer1 (6 Servers), clustered rackspace (UK) servers (3 Servers), as well as a private rack (4 Servers) in FDC Servers (Chicago). All of them underused or not even used yet, they are all just sitting there with a 3 year paid contract left. I even tried to get in contact with the new owners and still no response, in fact I wish I knew who the new owners were. Spiderweb is not definitely the one, I'm sure. Even assuming it is Spiderweb, I would say that they are hiding themselves pretty well.

I even have some interesting ideas Ryzom too, but I lack the motivation to start from scratch.

Seeing how Ryzom and current owners are, I guess I would have to dedicate myself to some other project that I can call my "life's work" when I retire in 50 years from now :o

Hmm what you say makes me reconsider, I couldn't support the whole game for sure but if there was a possibility I'd make an effort to buy part of the shares and push some money into it on condition to be able to be informed how the whole business is coordinated.

how much is Wow?

i dont see how ryzom could charge more than competitors.. thats a really bad idea... we are the vets who are saying wed pay 30 dollars.. why would a new customer even try the game knowing theyll have to dish out 30 for it.. when they could play a half decent mmo at 15?

as said in other threads.. they need to reconfigure their system so they can sustain the game and make money.. its not as easy as just raising the price.. they might get twice as much money, but they might have half the players.. wouldnt help at all.

i hope the owners are reading these threads, they would quickly see that they can depend on some of us for help, (given some interviews haha)... i imagine even if they didnt sell the game to you clyne, but wanted to use one of your servers for a year.. youd most likely agree to it, given your circumstances.. i know id be happy to help them advertise.. (im a graphic designer)...

i mean if they need help.. why dont they ask the community that loves ryzom so much? who better to help? ya it might be a risk for them, but they could invest some time in interviewing us, and seeing what we are capable of and how we could help.. i think itd be really rewarding to know we all helped ryzom get back on its feet and succeed.

Again, it depends a lot if you consider WoW the competition or not. Chanel doesn't consider Neutrogena direct competitor, when they wanted to compete with Neutrogena Lancome bought L'Oreal.

But it takes work to bring Ryzom in any competition, that's a different story.

I play WoW, its about 15 bucks per month, I wouldn't pay any more than 15 bucks for it either, where as with Ryzom, I definately would pay twice as much.

i dont neccessarily feel like WOW is the only competition.. id consider any successful MMORPG , competition for ryzom.....whether it be the price, the services provided, etc... WOW just came to mind first...i thought it was around 20-30 dollars for subscription.. guess i was wrong (thanks Valda for the info).. this sort of makes the 30 dollar price even more ridiculous in my mind.

sort of seems like your just arguing to argue though FAA. so have fun.

the main point = they just need a plan that works for the long haul.

the end.
