Since this is obviously an extremely delicate subject, please take the time to read my post fully and try to at least understand my position before making any decision you feel you need to.
Edit: (*) When I started... seems some people replied in the time it took me to write this
On Thursday night, Twina came into klients while I was afk and sadly made a similar but more definitive version of the original post - by the time I got back to the pc they had logged off. Needless to say, everyone in klients at the time was feeling pretty helpless but felt the need to do something, and the post just reinforced that.
Now most of you might think that we CSRs have access to any amount of information about the players, but I can tell you that we simply don't so there was no way for us to contact anyone IRL about things such as this. I then spent quite a few hours discussing what should be done (both about the post on the forum and just in general) with Marjo and the Community Managers of the other servers.
To explain things further, my dilemma was thus:
On the one hand:
After the discussions I mentioned earlier, I made the choice to leave it open (watching it carefully) in the hopes that something good would happen. This is probably going to sound unfeeling, but either something good would happen, or eventually the thread would slip off the front page and it could be dealt with more straightforwardly
As it turned out, something wonderful did happen and not only did everyone respond better than I could have hoped for, but Twina posted again with good news
Now that you've read all this, I've removed the original thread - I hope you can at least understand, if not agree with, why I have done so.
I'd like to thank you all again for the way you all handled this, and express my happiness that Twina is all ok.
I've quoted this post for a couple of reasons; not only was it the last one in the thread(*), but it's also a good place to start to explain things.ulani wrote:I guess when someone writes a suicide note, they must be very desperate. Normal "netiquette" just doesn't apply, and why would it matter? I don't know how a forum moderator should deal with it, but it's their job not ours. Critisizing someone who has hit the floor (and apologized!) is just selfish. Report the post to a moderator if you take offense.
I am happy to hear you feel better Twina!

To explain things further, my dilemma was thus:
On the one hand:
- The forum rules would normally require me to either remove such a thread, or at the very least to move it to "offtopic".
- As Final stated - and I'm sure others thought (or would have thought if they had seen it) - this simply isn't the kind of thing you expect to see on the forums when you're trying to relax.
- Just because of the way the Internet is, the longer something like this is left open, the more likely it is that someone is going to say something hugely insensitive (thankfully no one did ).
- If I were Twina watching my thread for any amount of time, and it suddenly disappeared, it would only make me feel worse.
- If someone who knew Twina IRL saw the thread, good things might happen.
- It's just plain irresponsible to ignore something like this - either you have to do something about it (which we tried to do) or you wait for it to run its course and hope something good happens.
