When did GameForge move the servers, was it beginning of Feb? Wonder if they bought a year of server time?

Yeah it was around the the beginning of Feb. and if i can recall the Klients conversation that took place with Phelan they were moving the game to the same hosting company which hosts their other games as "they offered us a great deal". I dont suppose anyone saved a transcript of that Klients session?

I don't think it's their own datacenter, though ^^

I don't think so either. As neofyte said, Phelan IRC chat mentioned they got a better deal than Jolt, but (s)he? never mentioned that they were hosting themselves the service (i.e. they have to "pay the bandwidth" too)...
I am yet another player that tends to think what other players have said: that the hosting was payed in advance (e.g. one year) when Jolt was dismissed (around this time last year). It would seem that we may be running on pre-paid (e.g. not-free) time until this runs out. I would not expect the servers to be kept up "as long as there is no new buyer", not with current hosting prices. I'd be surprised otherwise, but it seems reasonable to expect GF to "unplug" as soon as they must shell out an extra couple'o'grand.
Unfortunately, in line with almost 4 years of communication regarding Ryzom future, we may not be aware of it until it happens, e.g. don't dream of an official commit or announcement to keep the servers running...

This was my point a few posts ago. No one buys servers for their game, website, whatever. I mean, of course, SOME companies do. But not a company such as game forge. They rent them. At least, thats MY guess.

Let's think about it this way :
Most Game Forge games are free to play browsergames with optional premium accounts and item shops (I know what you all think about that). Even their PoS asian MMO (Metin2) is free to play. Yet they still generate enough income with their "optionnal" paying products to host several servers per language version of each game and to release new servers regularly. Of course, a PhP game isn't as big as a MMO, but they still receive thousands of visitors a day. There goes the bandwith.
This is only pure speculations, but considering they don't have to pay for developers anymore, hosting Ryzom probably doesn't cost them that much to host, since they got such a "great deal", probably because of what they are already hosting at the same place. If they were really so greedy for hosting space, they would already be hosting something else instead of Ryzom on that pre-paid. Something that brings in an income of some kind to compensate with their failure on Ryzom (and pay the debt to the liquidator).
My point is, they could have shut down Ryzom long ago, yet we've been able to play it for months. I don't think Ryzom uses that much bandwith compared to all their other stuff, simply because there is much, much less traffic. If anything, they'll probably renew the hosting and use it for something else as soon as Ryzom is sold (and probably moved elsewhere, yet again).
Ryzom would probably have been sold a while ago if the French authorities hadn't been so absurdly slow in realising that there was still a debt to the previous liquidators on the game's ownership. Now let's just hope that I'm right about the hosting and everything should be fine...

...as long as we're not stuck in such a situation for a year.

Seems like it's been a year already.

Here's hoping Ryzom continues to run though.
Wonder if some kind person will backup the database for any new owners to use.
