Private Servers?

I'll probably get warned/banned/flamed for this, but meh. Assuming that the public servers close, what're the chances of a group of people within the community opening up a private server? Cuz if Ryzom has no future, and there's a tentative shut-down date, then it'd be nice to have a way to play the game. Also, what are the chances that Ryzom WILL close down? Is it a definite set-in-stone thing, or is it kinda wavering and unknown at this point? I played on the RoS trial island a little bit, the only thing that kept me from playing the game to it's full extent was lack of purchasable timecards. Plus I dont get my money's worth out of subscription fees, not enough spare time in my life to waste a couple hours a week on computer games.

I've only heard that the final decision is coming down in the next two weeks. That's when the liquidation period ends and we will finally find out if anyone has actually bought it. The rest is rumors and speculation. Keep checking the official news page for updates, there should be some in the time frame mentioned.

The game is unlikely to be shut down. And sure, feel free to ask for a private server... but only the liquidators posses the source code ;)

And only Blizzard possesses the source code for WoW servers...only NCsoft possesses the source code for Lineage II servers... ;)

Don't we need some insider to leak the server-side parts for us, in order to run a private server?

I don't have any experience with WoW private servers, but I helped to run a KalOnline private server and it was basically a beta version of server-side software and MS-SQL database, leaked by one of the original devs and later tweaked by fans in order to employ the newer game additions.

But there isn't any leaked server-side software for Ryzom available. Or... is there anything we should know, Katriell? :)

Not that I know of.

Just making a point, because there was a server software for the original iteration of URU Live (other than the official Until Uru software provided by the game's company and begun prior to it) which was constructed via packet sniffing, if I recall correctly.

Says here that Ryzom might get shut down. They said first week of February, and we cleared that, but the threat of the game shutting down has been too close for comfort.

That is not about the game being shut down, it's about the servers being shut down.

How do you play the game without the servers?
