A Fond Return

I am no new comer fresh from the old lands, I was old before most of you were young. It has, however, been many turnings of the green planet since I last trod the bark and I have returned but a shadow of my former self.

When I awoke, I found myself at Withered Stock and snow covered the bark. I carefully made my way toward my beloved Jen-Laï. I saw that I still carried the honor of the Kami as one of their Champions but that title carried with it painful memories of days long gone. Carrying this great burden, I sought out a Kami Master and asked to be stripped of rank and title and returned to the Old Lands. The Kami Master laughed and clapped its hands. Pain tore through my mind and body as the Kami raised its hand and a searing light burned through me. Before I completely lost consciousness, I could hear its burbling voice echoing in my mind, "You Kami friend. You loyal to Kami. You Zoraï. Find Zoraï. Find Kami."

I awoke with a start, standing before Chiang the Strong. I bowed deeply and it was then that I noticed that I was again wearing the garb of a refugee. The Kami Master had indeed stripped me of rank and title but instead of sending me back to the Old Lands, it sent me back to the refugee island.

Imagine my shock at seeing a Tryker walk by and on learning that the Four Islands were gone, destroyed in some cataclysm and that now all homins were being gathered in to a single, "fifth" island that the Matis had secretly populated years earlier and that some of the greatest masters of the four races had gathered on Silan to teach all homins.

As I walked away from Chiang, I discovered that the Kami Master had left me three things from my former life: A title which I shall keep forever hidden, a token of my former life that I may one day wear again and a small piece of bark with an inscription upon it
Gorran Kami Champion of Jen-Laï, High Officer and Ambassador of Guild Comitatus Praetorian
By the strength of one are many made strong.

I am diminished and sent to the West, to Silan and become simply Gorran of Silan. Having been sent here by the Kami Master, I will again prove my loyalty to my people and to the Kami.

If you are a scholar I'd love to discuss this in more detail in game,
But if you prefer the language of swords, i'll see you across the battlefield ;)

The funny thing is that I didn't even notice it until after I had that line about half written. {Gralen thinks} "Wow, that sounds familiar...oh, heh." I've read the Hobbit, LotR and Silmarillion about once a year for the last 26 years so it's not unusual for something from there to jump into my writing and speech without my realizing it.

I am actually quite excited that you've responded to my post as I had already seen your work on the pictograms and had intended to try my own hand at some rudimentary translation based on your work.

My first journey, upon returning to the Cities of Intuition, will be to make the perilous treks to the other three nations. I would be a fool to not do so again that I might again study under the masters of the blade, the Fyros and the master craftsmen of the Matis and the skilled foragers of the Trykers.

That being said, I would be most humbled to meet you and learn more of what you know concerning my people, we have lost so much.

As to crossing blades with you on the field of battle, I long for that day as well but not that we cross blades as adversaries but that we stand side by side as fellow homins working together to secure peace for our lands.

Vielen Dank! (Ich kann Deutsch aber habe viele verlernt.)

There were indeed times when I felt lost, Ryzom took root in my heart so very fast that not having it there, for whatever reasons, was painful. Quite glad to be back.

Indeed, I am a Zoraï and look forward to returning soon to my beloved jungles in the Witherings.
