Overabundance of foreign names

Good homins,

lately, more and more people are naming their children with strange, foreign names; names that sound almost like some underworld titles or secret codes. Maybe you did notice it too - with recent influx of newcoming refugees, this practice becomes more and more common.

I have seen strange names consisting of foreign words like The, Hell, Slayer, Phoenix, Darth, Lady, Little, Great, Ugly - what kind of names are those? Ancient laws of our ancestors aren't enforced anymore in these parts of Atys? They should be enforced though, as they were never removed from the books. But instead of enforcing those ancient laws, our lawgivers are doing what? Censoring our atrium fora!
If some laws are enforced while others aren't, we can just as well throw all our laws out of window - together with our traditions and our unique culture, which is, for all we know, only such culture in whole Universe.

What's wrong with traditional Fyros, Zorai, Tryker or even Matis names? Well, for one thing, nobody knows how should they sound like anymore! Our people have spent too much time in Prime roots so they lost most of their culture and lore... now their children are coming back to the Bark, bearing strange, mismatched names and no knowledge of their own ancestry!

Could we try and put together some kind of guidelines to make this name-picking business easier for newcoming refugees? To let them know how should traditional Fyros or Tryker names look like, for instance? After all, name is an important thing, it will stick with them for the rest of their life.

Hey now, My name is not foreign! I was born here, And have lived here all my life! My name "Red Slayer" was passed on to me from my grandfather who fought in an ancient war, His armor was red, And they called him "The Red slayer" Because he seemed invincible and killed many enemies, with what seemed to be no effort at all. So when I was born, My name was given to me, So that maybe I could be passed down some of his strength as well. And ofcourse, to carry on his memory.

As for the other people with Slayer in there name, They probably got it from his legend ;)

(P.S. Also, I'v been here for 2 years now, And I know you're talking about RoS, But still ;) )

OOC :::

yea i know exactly how ya mean. and the naming system is _NOT_ being enforced. its insanely stupid imho. we should stick with the naming policy we had before! our "ancient laws" don't forbid things like "slayer" or "blade" and don't nece force us to pick race-sounding names. however, we should be picking names that have A) some relevance to fantasy gaming B) no connection with reallife people or popular fictional characters (superman) C) no 'titles' like The Lord Lady King Queen etc...

the naming policy was really very clear on that. why we aren't enforcing it? i don't know. but personally i don't associate with people that BOTH have the against-the-rules name AND act like dimwits.

an enforcement of this policy - besides simply "bad word" names - would be great! names that come to mind that i think are perfect examples of "good names" are Kostika, jyudas, sehraci, yaffle, kye, zepth, etc... "neutral names" would be like me (Nightblade) Redslayer and Doubletap - and then i won't say what i think are "bad" names out of respect - but a few do exist on mainland! (though i'm glad to say, MOST don't last in game.. most)

//OOC\\ : speaking only for myself, I would have named my char differently (a fyros name that ends with "an"; "eps"; "ix"; "us" etc.) if i had paid more attention to the lore and the fyros background at the time i created him. It just never occured to me. (this is my first MMo :) ) IMO most people who name their chars after RL pple, fantasy heroes etc are simply lacking inspiration/imagination (don't take that as an offense please..im speculating). Would be nice if someday the devs could develop a random name generator like on the ring everytime u create a npc. and if a new player does not know what to call his toon he can choose a name from the generator :) //OOC\\

ooc: the names used in the ring are not random at all :( , but infact come from a list of names per 'race_gender' that are stored in .txt files.

as it stands at the moment its not actually possable to make a character with a true Zorai or Tryker name anyways...

(completely OOC) - I do agree the naming policy should be enforced more, I have seen some names that are a bit preposterous :P like - IwishIwasfive lol! *acually saw this ingame a couple months back dunno if they still play* seems a bit too much to me.

OOC reason for my name is simple, I developed the name in an FPS I used to play with my friends, I was always red (since its my faverite color) and I always won by like 20+ kills rofl, then one day (when I was winning more then normal, think the final score ended me-50 and 2nd place had 13)one of them was like "Damn you're slaying everyone" which led to, "The Red slayer!" which I in turn took on, and have carried on with Redslayer ever since :) , Its also to remember an RL friend who was part of me getting the name, whom moved and I'v lost contact with.

Another name created, Is my ingame son (of me and Saraii) named Lotu, which orriginated here in Ryzom, and I will carry it on to the next game I play aswell, to Remember both Ryzom, and Sar. Dzya is my ingame daughter, played by Sar, Don't know if she will carry it on hehe, thats up to her :)

Ok ok, Sorry bout the long story, but I am bored with nothing to do, and can't log in rofl... Take care guys :)

Sun Ce, is a legendary name, and il always keep it.

Pluss, when the DEV's finally realise my importance and make Sun Ce, The Devil of Arispotle, it will be a perfect match with the lore.

And LOL Red, you little liar. Lotu = Lord Of The Universe. We both remember that :p

P.S. If you respond to this, you admit you're an idiot Sun :) Just so you know.

(Oh and btw, incase someone reads this and doesn't know, Me and Sun always talk to eachother like this, He just never learns :P )
