Topic raised in uni chat, how many want it im curious?

and yes a lot of players know how (including me), but wont say due to......

Any chance for some open, honest clarification on this subject? it has been posted as one of the things in "development" at some point iirc.

a nice simple feature that deffinatly wont break the game or cause bugs. (when compared to the last patch ect ect :p )

A slight increase would be nice perhaps. There is ofcourse the risk of making things too easy if it's too much.

I think the movie makers amoung us (at least the one I know well ;) ) would be happier if they could disable the targeting reticle.

See http://forums.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30993 for clarification.
Leaving this thread open for discussion of the topic, however be aware that using any GameForge owned system to convey information on how to make unauthorized modifications to the cfg files is prohibited.

edit:Let me further reiterate that discussion of the rule and how to circumvent it are not acceptable in this thread. If you wish to discuss the zoom or show interest as a community in the hopes of gaining dev attention you may continue.

From Raph Koster's Design Rules:

Hyrup's Loophole Law
If something can be abused, it will be.

Corollary:
No matter what you do, players will decode every formula, statistic, and algorithm in your world via experimentation.

Lambert's Laws:
  • A bored player is a potential and willing subversive.
  • Players will eventually find the shortest path to the cheese.
Dr Cat's Theorem
Attention is the currency of the future.

Dr Cat's Theorem as expressed by J C Lawrence
The basic medium of multiplayer games is communication.

and, finally:
Never put anything on the client. The client is in the hands of the enemy. Never ever ever forget this.

If you don't know, Raph Koster was the Lead Designer of Ultima Online.

If you think this is off-topic, it is not. :)

I think this configuration change should be considered, to bypass others "issues" editing the config gets the green light.

Increasing zoom is easily configurable, and will barely increase current "upgrade" issues. Anyone in a guild that been around a few days knows how to do it, the rest PM us.

It's not rocket science and unlike other changes doesn't break anything.

(All this being said, on upgrades/patches you may/will have to make changes to your game for it to act properly. Any time I had a patch issue, it was because I MAY have an altered config file).

As it is now, altering the zoom allows some unrealistic/exploitive abilities to players.
By making an official zoom improvement, these can be controlled or removed.

This will make some players unhappy, and put more work on the dev team, so its a question of how big a problem is it ?

ohh yeah i agree. being able to zoom-in and target those pesky kamis that are hiding inside/behind packers in outpost battles. tho, being able to zoom out a bit more officially would not hurt either.

btw, when we already talking about things that should be kept to private (so devs dont know whtat to nerf)... you know those loot messages they moved from syslog to bottom-center ? it's controlled by config file too. want big (and i do mean big) screenshots ? edit config file and all screenshots you take can be higher than you normal resolution (and no UI windows either).
for full possibilites for config file, read client_default.cfg.... it's nicely commented too.

.. and if you all havent figured out yet, answer for a "Can i change camera zoom" question is "NO"

Done it since the beginning, but i always have original @ hand, i rarely have issues with Ryzom, but when i do, i simply goto original and then if still have the issue, then i get support if i cant rectify myself.

Changing or editing any game file can lose you the support you feel your entitled to.

ps... ignore the Skillz in Signature, a few more than that, but since i rarely visit forums now, i simplycant be a§§'d updating it.

What exploits does a zoomed out camera give you. other than being able to target someone 200m away with a mouse click (instead of /tar)?

but then, once you've zoomed out alllllll that way with the mouse wheel, which would take forever, you then have to zoom alllll the way back in with the mouse wheel. by that time the player has either ran off, or you've been killed and the camera is facing the floor :P

*shrug*

would be happier if they could disable the targeting reticle.

QFE :D :D
