Questions on Armor.

Hello all, I'm a new player here on Atys, and I go by the name of Nectu.

I'm trying to be a primary magic-user, and I'd like to know what would be good for me as far as armor goes. I've been told that light armor is the only way to go, but using medium armor, I seem to do alot better in solo situations. Perhaps that's just because I'm low level and not very specialized at the moment? Also, what is an acceptable Action Malus for a mage?(if there is one) Answers to these questions and any tips/tricks to help me garb my mage in something that will keep me from being too squishy, yet not cripple my spell casting abilities would be much appreciated. :)

See you on Atys!

Light armor is generally recognized as the best to use, for solo might be worth using medium armor.

The more medium or heavy armor you use the slower the spells cast and the more hp / sap they use, dunno what else to say, any other specific questions feel free to post

Malus effects range quite drastically so......

if you feel a little squishy in just LA, try a few MA items with LA to help but beware your range is important for magic as it allows you to damage mobs before they can even reach you :)

hope that helps some..

another good tactic is for a mage to have a healer friend :) . 2 healer/nuker mages can make quite a dent in a mobs hp in quite a short time :)

Medium Armor is useful once the growing HP bonus it adds, is more worth then the constant penalty it adds too.

For some this can already be at Q100, others say not below Q200, it depends alot on the playing style and other skills.
But for starter's I think it is wise to wear LA till at least Q50.

Medium armour has the same level prerequisite as LA.. highest level + 25, and a more lenient con requirement than HA ( HA requires con no less than 10 below your armour level, MA is con times 1.5 )
So if your magic level is much higher than your fight level - which affects how much con you can train - you can wear better MA than HA.

When you have your MA equipped, right-click your spells and check out the info on them. You will see what the effects of your malus are on range, casting time and casting credits. Also look at the success rate.

For myself, soloing is good in MA, but if I end in a team, I can strip off the MA and cast without Malus.

A good Magic amp will make a bigger difference tho ;)

Welcome nectu. I hope your travel from Silan to ML went well. I enjoyed teaming with you recently in the jungle as you worked affliction while I nuked kipestas. I leveled melee fairly high before I came back and lvld magic. I think the HP's you get from melee help alot when you start nuking mobs. I use LA exclusively. Make sure you try to cast that first spell from 50m - if you get strong they'll die at your feet before they get to you :) Send me an in game tell and we can get together sometime.

Pfft, i use nothing but Medium Armor for magic _and_ tanking

only exceptions are if i'm tanking something Really Big (heavy armor) or if i'm leveling in a big team - then i do a Sun Ce and level in the nude :D

Don't even bother trying to mage in heavy armor unless your trying to kill yourself :D

Seems like there are alot of different viable options for the types of armor that people use. I guess it's kinda up to me, and my playstyle to determine what armor I use. Thanks for the responses, kinda pointed out that there is no "best" way, it's just kinda up to me. :)

Later on folks, Hope to see you in game!
