I got off Silan island about 2 weeks ago. I know we have melee weapons and also range weapons. But why can we only access melee weapons on Silan ?

I do not recall seeing any availability of range weapons back on the island.

I have access to craft them but even outside the island, I don't remember seeing range weapons.

Are they available only starting a certain level ?

If memory serves (just came back to the game), ranged weapons are available only on mainland. It's one of the benefits of subscribing.

Exactly. Ranges is only avaliable on the Mainland.

requiring ammo on Silan would be a bad thing.
The digging capabilities of the players are too low (quantity-wise) to sustain ranged levelling, so players would need to purchase their ammo from the NPCs, it is just simpler to keep the ranged skill out of reach until the players have capacity to support it.

Also, ranged is difficult , and some say broken. It is definitely not as polished as the magic or melee skills. Another very good reason not to put it on the introductory island.

Difficult to start and maybe needs some tweaks yes but broken no, but not a skill to grab newbies on starter island where accessability and usability straight from the box matters.

Find your feet on Atys then leave spell chucking and stick swinging behind you
