A town of roleplay?

I had a small idea the other day, while exploring. If you notice, there are many smaller towns outside of the major ones. Many of these smaller towns aren't nearly as busy as the bigger ones, and would be perfect candidates for a player ran town.
I don't mean a factional thing, but something along the lines of a role-played town. Kind of like a theme park, but instead of Humans in costume, it would be Homins in character!
If players were interested, they could make an alt (if they'd like) to have a "job, such as Barman, Wait staff, Seller of Certain Goods, stuff like that. We could even go so far as to do what I did: make a guild for yourself for the use of the guild title. I made my guild called "Atys Reporter" so it looks like a title, and not a guild name. So when players walked into town, they would see a Homins name, a title under that and a job under that. It could be a permanent place of business and pleasure for roleplayers, and since it would be away from thr main towns, there wouldn't be as much "regular" chit chat.
Just an idea, but with Ryzom we have to understand that we Homins are going to have to make our own rules, or at least we should try. The world is open ended, and this wouldn't be hard to start.
I think we could nominate a town and a week to try it out in, and I would volunteer to organize jobs and an event or two. It'd be cool.
Anyway, just an idea! :)

Good idea. :)

The primary question would be which region the town should be in. Majestic Garden, Cities of Intuition, and Liberty Lake each contain several minor towns. Thesos in Savage Dunes has a nice bar, which has been the site of RP (Samsara pub night) in the past, plus that other building...

Liberty Lake, being in Aeden Aqueous, is difficult to get to initially, and traveling between its towns involves a lot of swimming for neutral and Kamist characters...

Avalae in Majestic Garden is pretty, but inconvenient to get to (for neutrals and Kamists)...Davae is slightly less inconvenient...Natae is frequented by shoppers and crafters...

Dyron in Dunes of Exile is frequented by shoppers, crafters, and diggers...

All of the minor towns in Cities of Intuition (Hoï-Cho, Jen-Laï, Min-Cho) have similar inconvenience as Davae and Avalae, except that Karavaneers and neutrals would be those who'd have to run a distance rather than Kamists and neutrals...

Thesos would probably be best, then?

I agree that Thesos would be the best location for this type of project. This idea has a great deal of merit and one that would not overburden or tie anyone down, meaning that it can sort of grow on its own, and there is not a great deal of start up or investment time needed by anyone group or individual. It could be fun from beginning to the end.

Very good idea.

my vote also goes for Thesos :)

That floating bar built in a tree trunk by the lake and the kami sculpted building cast the other towns in it's shade.

I didnt even think of Thesos! I thought this might work better than the Ring as well, so you would not have to worry bout who's hosting and all that. Also, "non" RP'ers could walk in and see what was going on!
I'm going to go scout out the location. What about jobs and all that? too much to worry about?
With alts you can leave them "parked" there, so that if your main is off levelling you would not feel bad about not being able to come back to the town.
We could even work up a good story about a group of families moving into the town, with brand new stories.
Hmmmm...ideas..ideas..

haha I had the teleport for Thesos this WHOLE time and I've never been to check it out..SO nice. The bar is beautiful!
If anyone has any ideas, let me know. I think it would be great to have some kind of set up there, or even just nominate a few nights/days that people make sure to meet. Like three times a week say that the Homins come in from the hunt and are there. Hmmm..

Hmm please remember some of these towns are homes to certain homins. Mainly homins that like to have peace and quiet in the village they reside within and dont care to see a large amount of homins old and young of age running about and jumping off walls and such, which you find in every big city.

I currently reside in thesos and would not like to have the village turn into a huge industrial city with homins running in and out and screaming about. I have found peace within this village and a bottle of fire wine from the local barman and really would be upset to see it ruin. Currently there is no other place remotely like it in the desert, while in the jungle and the forest there are quite a few small villages that provide such a scantury for a restless soul. But i currently handle the climate of either of those 2 areas for a prolong period of time. So please dont let this plea fall on death ears... dont invade the peace i have found on atys.

(/OOC) I currently use thesos as a place for my packers and to craft and sell from for a few different reasons. But sorta how i stated IC i would be upset to see the town changed to suit others. I think one of the small towns in the forest would be the best place.

thesos would not ALWAYS be how you described, great83, if we'd organise RP days say twice a week for example. If you don't want to see Thesos animated and full of homin joy those days, I suggest you find smthg to do to stay away from the town...unless you feel like joining in ? :)

This would be perfect. That way there isn't to much interference to non roleplayers that reside in Thesos (they can just stay away from the town at this time). And, the few that want to take place in this RP town idea dont feel forced to come RP every day, and can be on their main character most of the time instead.

Very nice thought Beau, I suggest looking at what The Samsara did with the Pub Night. Here, here, here, and here.
For a better example idea of how to run a constant RP, erm, thing.

(/ooc) No flame intended! But I really dont get your point great83. I have never heard anyone complain about what the Samsara did regarding to the pub nights in Thesos. Why would it bother you that a group of players take it upon them to bring more life to one of the cities in the game? Why do you think it will lessen your enjoyment of the game that other players convene regularly in Thesos? Ryzom is supposed to be a roleplay game, how can it bother you that people decide to meet for roleplay in Thesos?

EDIT: He he, I must admit I actually got a little provoked by your statement :D . Do you suggest one of the small forrest towns be used for this, because not many people frequent them, and then you wont be bothered by people meeting to roleplay? Has it really come to this in the game that roleplayers have to go hiding in desolate places to no bother others? Nah... that cant be right. There ought to be plenty of room to us all on Atys - regardless of playstyle. Have a nice day :)

EDIT2: But, yes, I think this is great idea Beau. I will try to incoporate it into an event Im planning on setting up later this summer. Ive sent you a pm about it. Cheers.
