Newb questions I cant find answered elsewhere.

Hiya.

1. How do I move actions between action bars? Is there a way to select what icon a built action receives?

2. My toon is a tryker, and it appears I like to do magic.

I have been attempting to make magic bracers (or whatever the augmentors are called) similar to the "freezing touch" ones, so far I havent gotten especially close.

Are Zorai or matis bracers (or fytor armor/weaps) inherently better than other races? Given I'm a tryker... my designs are all racially limited at the moment, given I dont think exploring garb is terribly exciting, do I essentially end up wasting some of my early crafting points?

2b. what did the quest quip, "some cultures are better at certain thing than others" mean?

3. why are magic bracers so incredibly heavy and what is the algorithm for determining the weight of a crafted item?

4. how do I raise my carrying capacity? I assume it is racially invariant? Dex does nothing for dodge so I assume strength isnt helpful for schlepping.

5. other than the run speed boost stanza you can get from any trainer, are there other ways to spend skill points from less valued areas for general purposes, its good to plan ahead.

6. Is there an option to respec ones character at some point in game, if one has made "errors" in skill choices?

7. why do objects labeled "parry modifier" not appear to actually have any, how does defense work?

8. are gooheads able to be aggroed individually, or am I REALLY going to need a team?

Thanks for your attention and all replies.

Dave

1) Can't, Can't (You can copy actions on the same bar though, by holding down ctrl + left mouse over the action you want to copy and then dragging to an empty slot - Just FYI)

2) The difference between amps from other races is just the look, the mats you build them with are whats important.
2b) Not sure I understand the Q

3) You'd have to ask the Devs, but different items have different set weight/bulks

4) This is the same for everyone and doesn't change. Mounts(1X), Packers(3X), Apartments(1X) provide extra storage.

5) At the start you'll be short of points so choose wisely, but once the melee branches split you'll find a nice supply of extra points from there. (Applys to digging also on the splits)

6) No, it's not really posible to make major errors anyway. At worst it'll just cost you some extra time.

7) Lables arn't always too bright, only some items use parry (or dodge) mods, plus the true stats on the info windows are the main concern.

8) eh? :p

Good luck!

You can drag icons from the ACTION menu at the right, but not between bars, as far as I know. You have to rebuild custom actions on new bars.

All the different racial plans will create items with identical stats - although different looks - assuming that you use the same materials to make them. So Tryker magic amplifiers are just as good as Zorai or Matis ones. Amps are tricky to make and the materials on Silan are limited. I don't think you can make amps as good as the Freezing touch ones, until you get to the mainland.
davethehun wrote:2b. what did the quest quip, "some cultures are better at certain thing than others" mean?
That is mainly a roleplaying quote. In OOC terms, the races are pretty much the same except for some tiny differences in spell resistances and protections. Of course, there are big cosmetic and roleplaying differences. There are some differences in starting fame for Kami and Karavan, but one can change that easily by doing missions for fame.

The weight is determined by the mats that you use to make the items. I dion't know what the weight range for amps is. You can't increase carrying capacity, although you can buy mounts and packers to carry and store stuff on the mainland (also apartments and guildhalls for storage).
davethehun wrote:6. Is there an option to respec ones character at some point in game, if one has made "errors" in skill choices?
You can't respec. However, you can make up for poor choices by gaining more skill points which is relatively easy in combat skills. Forage can be a bit slower. The only area that requires a lot of care is crafting. You should plan carefully how you use crafting skill points - making sure you get the q upgrades that you need first, and not overbuying plans.

Parry mods work on 2handed weapons, armor and shields now. The 1handed weapons will probably have them added in a patch fairly soon.

I don't think so.

Some advice from a new player on a few of your questions:

4. If you want to save room in your inventory, sell picks and/or tools before you go out to resource collect from killing creatures. Tools and pick take up 10 per item in your bag space. Selling such items will get you around 700-800 dappers and cost 1000 to replace. It is a drop in the bucket once you get rolling. Another trick is the "sell items to players" options at the traders. If you have stuff you want to keep but don't want to carry around (high end materials particularly), jack up the price so no one would buy it. When you need it, retrieve it for a fee. Again, this is something you'll only want to do when you get to be higher in level (because it costs you to retrieve) on the island (30+) and probably only if you are into several crafting trees (armor, weapons, jewels).

5 & 6. You really can't screw up with skills but you can make life more difficult on yourself. Read the skills carefully before you purchase. You say you are interested in being a mage so why spend the points only Acid 3 when you can just upgrade the damage for much less. When you look at the spells, understand what you are "paying" for. Many of the mid priced spells are adding range and time credits that you might not need.

8. Anything can be soloed on the island (even the last Chiang quest) if you have the patience to do it i.e. leveling up and equiping yourself properly. I doubt it can be done with anything other than a tank. I highly suggest you group since it is more fun and much easier (only way to go for defensive magic too).

My final all around advice is this: READ everything that is told in missions. Check forum boards here and keep an eye on Uni Chat. While it is sometimes filled with useless babble (unless you are foraging all night :P ), it can give answers to questions that will help you down the road. Last piece of advice is always use map markers. ALWAYS. This is helpful unless you have some weird photographic memory thing going on. ALWAYS MARK RESOURCES WITH FLAGS. On the island, they don't change
(drift a few meters) so if you are grinding up foraging and/or crafting, knowing three spots you can dig Q45 Soo Amber is HUGE. It will take some time to map but will pay off. Hint: the edges of the map hold resources and the farther away you move from the Ranger camp, the higher the quality, the jungle being the best (the walls around the jungle is gravy and mostly safe).

For moving actions between action bars, follow these steps.

Press B to open you actions window. Click and drag the action to the bar where you want it.

If it is an custom action, it will have to be rebuilt. Right Click on the action. Select Info. At the top of the Info Window is a Red thumbtack Icon. Click this tack. It will hold the information of that action on the screen, so that you can build an identical action on a seperate bar.

It does take a bit of time so find your self a non-aggro place before doing this.

Have fun.
