Lack of quests...

Maybe I'm missing something, but so far all I have seen from NPCs are short "tasks" like "Kill mob X and I'll be grateful or give you dapper", swap out "kill mob X" with gathering a resources or making an item. Those are not quests, they are not fun, they have no story behind them and the rewards are meager.

Where are the quests? Asheron's Call 2 is a good example of how questing should be done, right from the start you have a big multi-part quest to do that takes you all the way through the first island, and after that are countless other one's to do. Most of them are fun and challenging with great rewards. WoW is another good example. Ryzom however, just drops you into the world and leaves you to wander around aimlessly, I am already "forcing" myself to play, there's just nothing to do but kill 'X' 'Y' times or harvest over and over. Is this going to change? Or am I just missing something?

Ryzom is great, I love the gameplay, the style, and the crafting, but without a driving force to push me higher, I'm just getting bored. I'm very close to renewing my AC2 acount...

I've just started but i've heard this complaint a few times and people are saying that true quests are on the way.

As for going back to AC2 last time i checked it was a ghost town =( so research it before you head back there. I re-upped my acct a few months back and it was dead quiet and i was on the more populated server.

I am personally having fun learning the game and growing my character right now. I too hope they implement some quests before i start feeling the way you do.

Storyline quests (and I'm talking REAL quests here) are coming with Patch 2, which seems to keep getting pushed back. *sniff*

Just hang in there, Darq, and take the time to learn everything else the game has to offer; the mechanics, the customization (Actions, etc) and everything else.

The quests, as they exist right now, are a great tool to increase your fame with your respective race - take advantage of that. I'm sure it's going to give you a nice head-start when they do implement the real meat-and-potato quests later. They're also not a bad way to pick up some extra "change" :-)

As for AC2 - yeah.. I really liked that game when it was more populated. Turbine's really working their butts off to give that game a second wind.. even completely re-vamped the crafting system. Gotta give 'em credit for that.

Horizons.. You know.. I think that game has become more popular for its rolling disasters than it has for its actual gameplay. Such will be its legacy, most likely.

Patch one is supposed to be patching in "more storyline", IF you go through the welcomer mission...all the way to leaving for the mainland, and READ every word. You will gain a LARGE part of the very basics of the foundation of the story line.

OH and if you want MORE storyline...check out the offical web site, or these forums. I am not sure if the storyline got copied over from beta, but it was enough to take me a few days to read through it all.

EQ had NO storyline IN game, just factions and this races hates this other race, and a list of busted quests two miles long.

The missions are properly named, and fill a crucial role in starting out a character. The welcomer mission is a GOOD way to answer the ENDLESS list of "where is NPC name here?" "Where is the Trainer type here?", if you did the welcomer mission...you already know all that info.

The overseer missions and the supplier "what will you buy list" (get this by right clicking on the supplier and scroll down to what will you buy") go a LONG way in helping a BROKE newbie get enough skill and MONEY to leave for the mainland. Suppliers will pay a conciderable ammount MORE for a "will buy" item than ANY other merchant or most of the rest of what they will buy.

This game is not two months old post release, the storyline is going to grow with the game. I would expect new missions, inclusion of quests, addition of music, new spells, skills or materials, new mobs, events and MUCH more in the future. Has anyone else noticed that the branches of the "life tree" as I call it CREAK in game? Has anyone noticed that they are green and leafy in ALL regions including the desert? (the BIG things that run from Mesa to mesa in Fyros lands)

I think TOO many players spend WAY too much time playing console games, ones with beginnings, middles and ends. They get into a game and want it finished when they buy it, but that is NOT how MMORPG's work. Heck even Neverwinter Nights isn't "finished" out of the box, and it CAN be a stand alone. (I play NWN when servers are down or my ISP is down).

If you want the Cliff's Notes version of the storyline. Fyros were digging, hit a cave with Kitins in it and being a warrior race said "Woopee...let's kill it" Kitins said "Yum dinner" Kitins killed Fyros miners, raced up and killed ALOT of Fyros, then moved to other races homelands and almost wiped ALL races off the face of the planet.

The Kami and Karavan banded together with the survivors and helped us run from the kitins to a safer area. We are joining this story several generations AFTER all this happened (this part I gained in the welcomer mission where the trainers talk about "my father was a <trainer type> as well, but he didn't travel as far and widely as I have." Yada yada, basically it describes in short terms that the last generation was the first born after the tragedy, and the generation before was the one that was THERE when it happened).

We are picking up the pieces and restoring normalcy and civilization to a world upside down from a misplaced lifeform (belongs underground, but found a way out).

Also one thing that the storyline HINTS at, on the offical web site and in the manual is that the world is GROWING. Have you seen that TREE enveloping the world on the flash screen (AKA the "loading, please wait" of EQ days LOL)? THAT is the "life tree" as I call it, it is what the planet is made of. This planet is NOT a rock shell on a molten rock center. It is a HUGE tree with the dirt that it feeds off of. From what I understand of the concept, the planet puts down layer upon layer. One day the region you are in, will be UNDERGROUND. This is likely how the Kitins got trapped underground.

Guys...give the game six months, if you aren't happy with the storyline, quests, missions and events at that point...I will hold the door for you while you leave.

Hmm how about giving us back the $90 dollars for wasting our time? Game has no quests whatsoever, "Kill mob X" just does not do it for me

To repeat what you failed to read and interpret in prior posts on this thread...

The quests are coming.

Did you get that? I'll say it again.

The quests are coming.

And please tell me of a game that didn't involve kill mob X and loot Y and give to Z. Or goto A and get B to give to C.

You want more 'elaborate' quests. Well since there aren't any 'real' quests in game, just these tasks. Why don't you follow the advice, give it time. You don't want to pay for it? Then wait til later and reactivate your account.

Lyrah did a great job in explaining the history. Of course there aren't going to be any 'epic' quests to do yet. We are just RETURNING to the lands that we lost generations ago.

There has not been any mmporg that I have played yet that had 0, let me write that again 0 quests to do.
Yes games have kill x mob, but you know there is a storyline behind it.
To me releasing a game out with 0 quests to do is a bad start for any mmorpg.
People dont wait for things anymore, if you go to a mall to buy a dvd and that particular store does not have it, you dont "wait" ntil they get more, you move to the next store ntil you find it.
Im not trashing the game, but I already seen many people leave the game and is not even a month old. The guild I started had 30+ members they all left except for maybe 3-4.
With titles such as WoW, EQ2, Guildwars, Matrix Online ect do you think people are going to sit and wait because "things are coming?" No way.
So if people dont start as costumers demanding stuff, this game will become Horizons 2 soon enough.
