New player concerned.

Well I just got into the game and first thing I did was throw up a /who on the isle, didnt come up with to many results sadly =(

The game looks intresting, but as a lowbie who has no friends to fall back on im a little concerned with the population here, at least on the american server.

So im asking, is the population in this game kind of dead? If so id rather not go any farther than I have, one of the things I cant stand with mmos is not being able to find a group, especially at lower levels.

Personally, I wouldn't say that it was dead. The lowbie area isn't too terribly representative of the mainland though. My advice to you is to play through all the missions on Silan, see who you find on the way, make friends and I would advise in joining a guild.

The people in Ryzom make up one of the nicest and most generous of communities (if not THE nicest) I've found in any MMOG (and I've played afew).

mm well i guess ill see how far i get..what about the mainlands population though? I hear its huge which im assuming means the population will be spread out very thinly..which again troubles me that I will have difficulties getting a group once im over there..?

I'd say thats pretty accurate. It's not dead, but it's not exactly overflowing either. However it's not too horrid. I much prefer places not to be too crowded with no mobs free to hunt etc, people are nice and you'll likely find groups. A guild is a good idea too if your not in one already. =)

Good luck!

Actually, both previous comments are correct and alot depends on time of day. As an east coaster I can honestly say that there is always someone on when I am and sometimes too many (like in my favorite hunting ground or diggin spot)
I've been lucky once in awhile to be on when its prime time in our European companions homes. Again, same thing I always see alot of folks around in some places and in other places you can hear the sweet sounds of Atys and nothing else. Not to make light of your concerns about population but, personally see if the game itself is for you. If you like it half as much as we do then you'll make friends and go far here.

It is true that sometimes it really feels lonely on Silan. I sometimes have the impression of meeting more NPCs than players. But really soon afterwards, I see enough people to gather a team and fight a couple of bandits/dangerous mobs.

So, don't be desperate. If you don't find the players, maybe it's just because they're running around the island to accomplish some mission or tasks. But sooner or later, they're gonna be back in the camp. Just ask on the region channel. When I'm ingame, I'm always happy to form a team and kill some mobs, give someone a rez, or give a careplan to his source while he's digging so it doesn't blow up and gas around.

Teamwork sure is my favourite part of that game. And it rocks !
