I see all the NPC's using shields but I have yet to see any players using them. Are they bugged? Why does no one use them? If any beta-testers have the answers or for that matter any post retail people, could you fill me in. I was interested in the mace / shield combo but I need to take up shield crafting if I want one as no one makes them.

huhm ... no experience with a shield.

The majority of the people are using 2 handed weapons for the higher damage it provides. The ones who do not are generally using a dual wield setup of dagger/dagger or 1hsword/dagger.

I have seen a few running around with a shield but by and large most are using 2h weapons. Mage staves are 2h as well. Pistols require ammo in the off hand.

I wanted to go 1-handed with a shield but couldn't find one, gave up, and bought a 2h sword.

I have a tank whos 1h with shild and heavy armor
seems to work quite well but i have no idear if thats just the heavy armor or if the shild is being effective
ill play around whe i get time

Most people tend to use two handed weapons at the higher levels because of the much higher damage they can deal. I tried a sword/shield combo for awhile and I did seem to take less damage, but it takes longer to kill mobs.

It might have been my imagination but I seemed to take less hits while casting magic, holding a sword and shield, and a mob beating on me at close range. Too bad the magic amp staff is a two handed weapon or that would have made a good combo.

From what I've been hearing around pyr, shields don't actually allow you to dodge or block incoming hits from mobs, however they work by absorbing damage when you get hit, just like armor does.

I dodge plenty with mine

I use a shield and like it just fine. It significantly reduces how much damage I take. The action penalty for the shiled also reduces my swing rate and indirectly how much damage I dish our over time. Therefor if I am hunting in a group and not getting aggro, I unequip the shield.

I use a shield, and I craft them too... The things rock.

Check the Guild Forum =P But since I recently re rolled, my Levels are still low, but I still craft them.

I'm leveling shield craft because theres definitely a lack of shield crafters out there. Shortly I'll be able to make good ones
