Access since GF takeover

As a free acount I dont see any reason to stop free account holders to create/post in the general section, maybee this was designed to reduce spam or stupid questions? in the Nevrax cho months i saw no such incidents, and see no reason to disallow posters with free acounts access to the general boards.

eg, the recent news of dever as an example, many old atysians would love to post but cant without paying the bucks. happened to me atleaast 3 times now, each time wanting to say goodbye for one reason or another to someone when i can't

Spam from free trials was never a problem, can you atleast discuss allowing it again?

I think we saw during the ryzom.org debacle that this is a bad idea... I understand your intent but it's what's in the best interest of most people.

It's what's in your heart that matters... not words in the forums.

I agree. I don't post with my main account not only for security reason, but because the nick is my real name. I asked for a change, because i like to post and reply with other players, but both Nevrax and GF denied it. I know, mainly for the same security reasons.

But, being unable to post it's not a valid reason to ask for an opened forum. Better it is for subscribed players only so GF have all the needed informations in case of any serious trouble.

And we don't need people creating free accounts just to spam the forum.

I agree with Kiexa. We've never suffered from spamming thus far, and the ryzom.org case is a prime example of that (or have the moderators simply been far faster than my refresh rate?)

Hmmm, i got some mixed feelings about this, i mean most free acounts have no use in most discusions in general... since it is mostly about things after u left Silan... Imo the newcomer board works good enough for free acount holders.... though what i would like to see is that once ur subscription runs ur not auto banned from the forum... that always gives a nasty not so welcome taste in my mouth :p

Its never been allowed since the current "free trial" way of doing things (ie infinite free play on silan up to lvl 21) - that was started under Nevy.

Also, I think its a good thing, purely from a pragmatic PoV as an (ex-)forum admin myself.

I always thought this was a bit silly. People with no account can read just fine, but if you get an account and it expires, you don't have access (its not that you're "banned", you just lose the ability to view). I reckon its a leftover from when the forums were totally private - they had one "Open Forum" which was readable and postable by guest accounts (ie "Anonymous" non subscribers), and the rest were all subscriber-only; they then probably just changed the permissions for "Not logged in" users and forgot to do "Expired account" users as well

This is only my opinion and I havn't been here very long,

But I really like the boards as they are.

When the forums get all opened up then all of a sudden you start clicking on inappropriate language, Discussions that belong in a private uhm....area - at least for us young older people.

And I noted having been in other forums. That Our people will be so busy removing junk that they cant be in the actual game to help people. I doubt that they get overtime if they get paid anything at all. I bet most of them are volunteer.

The people that post here other than the "just odd I don't know where to post this so I'll try here", well almost all of the post I have read are Ryzom involved and I never see alot of flaming people to date. Its a mature environment yet fun.

I say if it really isn't broken why fix it.

I really like Ryzom the way it is - That is why I play it and why I even bother with this forum to date it has been worth reading and sometimes I even send a reply.

I had the same issue on the french community board. But my main concern was in fact the inability to post on both English and French Newcomer's boards and use both Klients at the same time. (I'm a bilingual user) I was told to create a second account to be able to post on the English community forum. It is only after activating my second account and logging in that I realized that I only had to click on a link to switch community, then repeat at will.

I so wish I had found out about this before creating a useless second free trial account. (Very, very useful feature)

Now I really do feel like a French-Canadian frog : jumping from a community to another and so on. :D *bounces off*

There is still nothing to do about the General and Feedback forums access though. :( Sadly enough, because there are some topic out there in which I'd be really happy to be able to post.

Yes, it's reasonable to lock out trial accounts from writing into most forums, can't agree more. But then, there should be something done with the way the forums deal with your account name!

For me, my account name is just as valid part of account security as my password is. Login name should remain unknown to anybody but the user himself. It is, essentially, *one half or your password*. Don't know about you, but I certainly don't feel comfortable showing one half of my password to everybody. It's like having two locks on your house door, yet giving one of keys to every stranger you meet.

Which means I'll have to use this (trial) account to access the forums. Which means I won't post in most forums, unless my login is hidden. Which in turn means that I WOULD like for trials to be able to post everywhere. But as I said above, I understand why it can't be done.

It shouldn't be that hard to implement some kind of forum nicknames and show them instead of our login names...
