Error: invalid server return, missing return code

I installed the Ryzom trial over a week ago. It installed and updated itself just fine, but every time I've tried to login I get this error message. I've forwarded the ports in my firewall, even put my machine in DMZ, all to no avail. Searching these forums for that error only a few (English) threads came up, all making it sound like the login server is down, but I have a hard time believing it's been down a week or more. Suggestions?

If you tried to login today, wednesday may, 2nd you might have a problem, because of a patch applied to the servers.

(this is for draytek routers)
DMZ can have some funny affects if you run multiple computers off one router.
DMZ'ing a PC on a router that only has one PC is fine, however (on the slight older versions) on some draytek routers you can get some funky effect.
Try looking at seeing what ports appear stealthed from the net.
Anyways;
the login server was down today (as stated) but it doesnt mean that when its up you personnaly cant get to it. There may be a node half way through france or germany thats getting you stuck. Try using a program like
neotrace to see if theres any problems getting to the login server. (if someone could provide that IP as all the ones i have seem to go to jolt - which, im asuming is wrong)
Best thing to do first tho would be to try and log in now (as all the shards and the Login servers are up)
Good luck

The servers were down this morning for a planned server merge between the Arispotle and Cho shards. You should be able to log in now.

Nope, same error. It's been this way since I installed, I've never once been able to actually login and enter the game.
Re: DMZ -- yes, I only have this machine on the router now.

Ok, now over a month with Ryzom trial installed, and still have NEVER ONCE been able to log into the game.
For the past several weeks, rather than the original message I was getting, I now get:
Error: the database server is in maintenance, please try later (3006)
Surely it hasn't been in maintenance 24/7 for weeks now? I also tried doing a forum search on that error phrase, nothing came up other than three threads from devs mentioning maintenance, all from 2006.
Seriously, I had severe issues attempting to beta test (I was one of the "black screen" players that none of the fixes worked for), now a couple years later it's taken a month on and off trying just to login...

Check your game files, I am guessing your "client_default.cfg" is not up to date. Check these entries:
under
// Some R2 parameters ...
Application = { "ryzom_live", "./client_ryzom_rd.exe", "./" };
StartupHost = "rslogin.juk.shards.nevrax.com:40916";
StartupPage = "/login2/r2_login.php";
near end of file
PatchServer="http://dl1.gfsrv.net:40916/patch_live";
InstallWebPage = "http://dl1.gfsrv.net:40916/installer/";
BuildName="RING_RELEASE_620";
Your game cannot load/login if it isn't looking in the right place...
If this isn't your problem, then you may need a new download.

The only difference in my file was:
BuildName="RING_RELEASE_611"; rather than "_620";
I changed to 620 but still can't login, I still get the maintenance message. Like I said originally, when I first installed the trial it had no problems connecting to the patch server and updating itself, it's just never let me login at all.
