Ryzom

I just wondering what the game is like for a newb to the genre.

I played a little bit of Guild Wars however found it got pretty boring and TBH, not into PvP.

Would just like to play an online game with a friendly community which to me is the most important thing.

I would just try it out for myself without coming here, however 7 gigs is a pretty big download.

You can try it for free, so i sugest you download the client and givit a shot! I have not played for long, are still on the "noobie island". Thats the area you can be on when you just have a trial account and playing for free. You cant compare Ryzom and for example Guild Wars to each other, this game has so much more to do, its more free, you dont HAVE to be a warrior or a healer or whatever, you can mix in any way you want. The crafting system is real fun, and the harvest proffesion gives a nice and relaxed feeling about the game The community is totaly awsome, friendley and not imature! This must be the most underestimated mmo i have ever played, give it a try, and i think you are gonna love it!

Excellent video! Very creative stuff. I've only watched the first one as of yet, however I'd love to know who was doing that music?

The chars look good and the spells look great as well, however I'm more interested in the learning curve lol.

With the new client you only have to download 614MB in order to start playing. The rest of the game downloads in the background while you play. It's pure genius.

Hey all again. I've been doing some research on the game and a bit confused.

It certainly seems like a game I may like. I've heard many good things about the community which which is a huge plus for me. Actually more important than anything as far as I'm concerned.

However I've also heard that someone new has aquired the game so now I'm a bit worried that I may play, get into it, then have it shut down.

Anyone know about this?

Gameforge is certainly not planning on shutting the game down on the log run.
They have just started a new advertisement campaign here in germany and afew other countries.
Why buy a game and then shut it down? Whould be a waste of money, don´t you think?

Nevrax developed Ryzom and released it in September 2004, about the same time that EQII and WoW came out. I'm not sure that the number of subscribers ever amounted to what was needed in order to pay for the tremendous cost of the game development, and Nevrax struggled through financial difficulties for two years before having to put it up for sale at the end of last year.

GameForge bought Ryzom from Nevrax in December 2006 and have made some savings to the running costs, and they are not saddled by the same debts that troubled Nevrax. However Ryzom does still need more subscribers, and I'm sure this is why GameForge are soon to release a Portuguese language server. Having only recently made their investment into Ryzom, I am sure that GameForge are not about to close it down, but the future is uncertain in the long term.

I'm downloading the client now. If people really are friendly towards newbs that's all I can ask for. My only real experience with this type of game was Guild Wars, and TBH, the people were so rude I very rarely grouped with anyone and stuck to using the "henchies".

While that was OK, it wasn't much different than playing a SP RPG, so why bother?

Oh and Acridiel. Do you know who did the music in that first podcast? I'm a musician myself and found it very interesting.

isn't he music in the podcast Ryzom's main theme? If so, Bjorn Arve Lagim made it.
