Predestination?

I would find it very distressing if in fact this was a linear event. Having not seen anyone from GF state that Akilla's defeat was predestined, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I would like to hear a statement stating the outcome was unknown. After all the death of the King would not mean the end of the Matis, and the marauders could have tactically withdrawn with a very stinky new footstool to come another day. (same overall outcome)
I am going to start with what my character saw, I was healing, and getting blown to bits by my Kami friends during the first 80% of the arena scenario. In the beginning Akilla was targetable but could not be visibly damaged, I was quite surprised when I retargeted her later and she was at 20% and plummeting quickly.
I suspect her rapid decline in HP has much to do with the prayer from Bezzo. Did anyone see if Bezzo was attackable during the arena phase? Bezzo may have been the key, without his prayer Akilla may have been the one who would strike down the King.
Just because the way is not lit or spelled out does not mean it did not exist. I am hopeful that GF has always been straight forward with us, and that we as players will continue to have the opportunities to make or break Atys.
