NOT FIXED - Hang on load screen and occasionally no sound

Hello,

I've downloaded the free trial and have had some pretty consistent problems. Occasionally after the patcher comes up, I'll get no sound from then on so I usually just exit at the character selection screen. I've been able to work around this (I think) by clicking on the main Ryzom window when the auto-patcher pops up, keeping the auto-patcher in the background. This seems to work. However, the more serious problem is that the game launcher will hang on the last bar in the loading screen (the triangle) about 3/4 of the times I try to launch it. I've ended pretty much every process/program I can think of to no avail. I've got every single option in the game maxed, and thought for a while that it was the fact I was using the 128mb textures in the Configuration options that was doing it. That doesn't seem to be the case, as it does it with 64mb as well.

* I am running Avast antivirus, but turned it off - still no go. I will try killing all of the Avast processes to see if that helps.
* I have Logitech drivers installed, about the only process non-OS related still running.
* I am using an AMD x2 4200+ with an nForce4 m/b with 2gb of RAM and an eVga 7900GTO w/512MB RAM.
* Windows XP Home SP2 w/ports for the game opened.
* nVidia drivers 91.47, will update these to 93.71 if still nothing helps. I'd been avoiding the 93.71s as they supposedly have some issues with some games. All other drivers on my system are up to date.

Thanks for any suggestions; I realize this has been posted more than once, but I wanted the devs to know it is not an isolated incident.

Btw, this looks like a fantastic community - and when the game runs, it blows me away as to how good it looks and plays. Hope to see you in Arispotle... they call me Sprokket. :)

FIXED? Re: Hang on load screen and occasionally no sound

Well, this seems to be fixed. First off, 64MB/128MB texture pack didn't make any difference, and neither did basically killing every service and unused process I could find. :(

However, upgrading my video drivers seemed to work like a charm. I was using the 91.47 drivers for my nVidia card (due to the newer version's supposed incompatibilities with some games.. heh) so I upgraded to the current ones anyway - 93.71. Rebooted, started the game no problem. Tried again, worked great. I will update this thread if I encounter this again, but it appears to be resolved.

Hopefully this helps some people who are having the same problem.

This is still causing me no end of grief. I was a computer tech for nearly 6 years and am pretty much at the end of my rope with this. I've looked through the log, but not found anything that indicates what is causing it. The only thing I can think of is that it could be related to the very high graphics setting I'm playing it at; basically, everything is maxed. However, I've tried returning everything to default with still no success. Occasionally, it will run, as if to tease me... then halt again the next time I try. I'm going to try creating a new character, see if it is a problem with the in-game window generation as I had customized my window layout.

At this point, I'm grasping at straws, really.

try this for sound. http://forums.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29231
if patcher is causing it, this should fix it.

for hanging... should be related to network. for old threads with same problem, open search, keyword "hang" and search in "Customer Support".

Oliver, I know you've started another thread about this issue but I'm posting here because this may not be relevant to the topic of your other thread.

I realise you're grasping at straws, so here is one:

A number of things you've mentioned strike some chords with my experience last year when I upgraded my graphics card: the intermittency of the fault; that you only see this problem with Ryzom; and that the loader hangs on the very last little triangle of the progress bar. I would additionally get system freezes or occasionally disk errors, and to complicate matters my issues would get worse the longer the computer was running - suggesting overheating. Only ever with Ryzom and 3dMark benchtesting, though.

I imagine you can get some software for your motherboard to monitor various things such as temperatures and voltage levels. I checked these and did find that I had a cooling problem I'd never had before. I removed the little resistor I had inline with with a system fan to make it quieter, and things improved, but only a little. Then I noticed that I was also getting voltage spikes from the PSU. To cut a long story short - I replaced my PSU for one more capable, although all the numbers said that the load was well within spec, and my problem was cured.

So you might like to try to monitor your voltages and temperatures, and/or try to cut out any unnecessary load - maybe unplug your optical drive(s). Ryzom simply appeared to make my new graphics card demand more power than the PSU could handle, and that seemed to show itself first on my HD presumably because the powerline to that also supplied a couple of cooling fans.

Jamela,

Thank you SO much for this suggestion. In fact, I did just get a new video card, about 2 months ago. It was an RMA replacement of the old one, but your suggestion is the first one that I had never even considered. I am going to go buy a new PSU today and cross my fingers. I will update this thread and the other with any feedback I may have. FYI, I just bought WoW today and left it unopened - my friend wants to play an MMO with me and I've been trying to avoid WoW, hence my persistence in fixing this, as I'd like to recommend Ryzom to him. However, if I can't actually get it to run, it's not a viable option, unfortunately. He's pushing for WoW, mostly because he hasn't tried Ryzom, which I think he'd like. Anyway, thanks to your suggestion, WoW will remain unopened. :D (and hence, returnable)

Thanks again, will update this thread once I've done some testing.

You might want to check the available software for your motherboard here before forking out cash on a new PSU - there might be monitoring software similar to mine, which is also a Gigabyte, though a bit older ;) . It really is only a straw I've thrown you - you'll notice I had some more serious symptoms besides. If you do want to go and get a new one anyway, be sure to spend a little more for a decent name and a power rating comfortably over your needs. Best wishes :) .

Well, I went and bought a power supply. Mine was 4 years old, after all. I got an Enermax 485W one - good quality, spent plenty o' $. :) So far, Ryzom booted twice in a row and missed twice in a row. So currently, I'm at 50%. Sigh. Will try again in the hopes that the % will go up...

I seem to be having a similar problem. Yesterday I decided to upgrade my account. Once I was done, I found that I could not log in anymore, well I can but the game gets constipated when the "Connecting" screen came up. I have not changed a single setting or component in my computer or client.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the game should IMPROVE with upgrade...

Recently, at around 5:30 AM GMT the login service seems to slow down, which gives the impression that it just hangs at the CONNECTING screen right after signing in, and again after the character selection. If you are trying to connect between 5:30 AM - 6:30 AM you'll have to just wait a few minutes and you'll eventually get through. Sorry for the inconvenience, hopefully we will have this tracked down and fixed very soon.
