Possesed chars?

I think I'm having a slight issue.. I tried starting up Ryzom for the first time.. created my char then continued to begin playing.. a small box poped up welcoming me and giving some info.. once i clicked ok my char took off running in a staight line.. I clicked around him, pressed everybutton on my keyboard and not a thing reacted, he just kept on running.. Any idea what could have caused this? is it a misteak on my part? set-up issue? or was my char just unhappy and decided to run away from home.

Did you try quitting Ryzom and logging in again and still have the same problem?

I've had the same problem a couple of times in the past, and put it down to trying to do too many other things, like web-browsing, checking email, loading up mp3 playlist, all while I was waiting for Ryzom to finish loading up. If that might be your case too, try launching Ryzom with no other programs or unnecessary background services running.

This happens in very odd situations I never could catch what exactly causes it. But there is a workaround to make it stop.
If you are moving forward or backward, press both the keys to move your character forward and backward.
If you are turning round and round, press both the keys to move your character left and right.

Tapping the up arrow key should fix when you get stuck in this fashion :)

The game checks for key events (ie when a key is pushed the keyboard goes "They pushed this key!" and then the game takes an action) instead of 'polling' the keyboard interface (if this was the case the game would ask the keyboard "Are any keys held down?" a lot of times a second) So if you alt-tab while holding a key, then the game doesn't notice when you let go, and thinks you are still holding it down even after you have let go.

That's the basic reasoning, but very occasionally some people have trouble where it can heppen during loading when they're not pushing a key. So yeah, if you ever get stuck in a movement (forward, back, rotate) situation, just tap all of your arrow keys and the "end" key a couple of times and it should hopefully sort itself out :)
