Fame: What's it do?

Just wondering what's the in-game function of Fame?

Fame directly affects your buy and sell prices with merchants of the same faction. It also opens up new quests/missions with certain NPCs that didn't seem to do anything before.
High enough fame may get you special treatment. But low enough fame may cause you to be attacked on sight.

Actually you can find eggs in the ground near the metkoub waterhole.

The moral is that you don't need the chicken to get the egg, they are already in plenty.
