The Blank Zorai

Open: It’s a stunning Tryker afternoon, the sun sparkles beautifully off the water’s surface. Fairhaven is bustling away oblivious to the events that are about to unfold on a beach, less than a KM away...
***
A Zorai lays face down in the sand, motionless. His mask being slightly chewed on by a pet Yubo, who’s owner is running towards then from the distance.

Tryker: ‘Scamp! Get here now! Oi! Scamp, where are you?’

The Tryker runs towards the Yubo, curiously looking at his pet to see what he has uncovered. Once both pet and Zorai are clearly in view the Tryker is halted.

Tryker: *gasp* ‘A Zorai?!’ – he questions his eyes only momentarily before rushing to the Homin’s aid. ‘ Are you alright? Mr. ? Can you hear me?’ – He struggles to lift the Zorai’s face from the sand turning him onto his back.

Zorai: *cough* *cough* *splutter*

Tryker: ‘Hey! You’re breathing, man you really scared me then. Take it slowly, nice and easy. One breath at a time. That’s it slowly does it buddy’

After a few minutes the Zorai leans forward on his knees, his hands supporting his upper body as he tries to orientate himself.

Zorai: ‘I feel I should be saying thanks, You helped me out there, er. Mr.?’

Tryker: ’Oh, no need for all this ‘Mr.’ Stuff like.’ - The Tryker says in a friendly voice ‘I’m Gabin, Please to meet your acquaintance and like.’

He says, standing, one arm stretched out as if to give his ‘rescuee’ a handshake.

Although Gabin is standing and the Zorai is resting forward, like an athlete who has just finished a race, the difference in height is not noticeable. The Zorai, still leaning forward puts his full weight onto one arm as he briefly shakes hands. Gabin brightly smiles at the Zorai, with his big playful eyes full of joy. Soon he expression fades and a more serious look appears. The Zorai still silent.

Gabin: ‘So, erm. What you be doing all the way out here? Ya’know tis not a safe place for a swi..’

Zorai: ‘I wasn’t swimming’

Gabin: ‘So what were ya doing?’

Zorai: ‘I... erm, I don’t know.’ A stern look appears ‘I think, No, I’m sorry you must forgive me.’

Without giving Gabin a chance to utter a word, the Zorai stands up, making the difference in height very noticeable. The Zorai looks down to see Scamp nibbling at his light armour shoes, catches his eye and glares. As Yubo and Zorai eyes meet Scamp goes to hide behind his master, who is now a bit more reluctant to talk, asks...

Gabin: ‘Hey, tallstuff! Where ya going? What's your name?’

Zorai: ‘I’m going where every Zorai who couldn’t remember his name would go...’

Gabin: ‘You can’t remember you name?! Boy, this is serious, you should consider seeing one of our Karavan guardians, they may know how to help’

The Zorai says nothing. He looks blankly at Gabin for a moment and turns to walk away. Gabin, clearly offended says:

Gabin: ‘Hmm, ok. I see.’ – He turns to Scamp, who is looking lovingly into his masters eyes, and thinks for a moment. ‘Well do you even know the way to Zora?’

This halts the Zorai in his tracks momentarily. However, he does not turn around as he says:

Zorai: ‘No, but the way will be made clear to me.’

Gabin, clearly distressed that the Zorai may cause more harm than good by venturing out in the wild, by himself, without a weapon. Rushes in front of the Zorai, turning to face him and sticking his hand out high (albeit as high as the Zorai’s stomach) stating:

Gabin: ‘There’s NO WAY I am going to let you go by yourself. You don’t even know your name, or how you got here. For me, that means you don’t know where you are going. So what’s going to happen is; You are going to come with me to my house, sleep. Then in mornin’ I’ll take you to get a sword and we’ll BOTH travel to Zora. Whatd’ya say?’

The Zorai sees the sincerity in Gabin’s words.

Zorai: ‘That sounds like a good idea. Thank-you once again, your hospitality is overwhelming. Please understand that, as far as I know, I have very little to offer you in thanks. Other than my gratitude.’

Gabin: ‘Haha, that’s ok! We need an adventure, don’t we Scamp? Scamp?’ – Gabin turns around several times to find his Yubo only to see him in the distance growling at his own shadow ‘Silly Yubo’ – He mutters to himself. Turning to the Zorai he says ‘By the way, have I told you that you look familiar?’

Zorai: ‘I’d like to tell you ‘I get that all the time’ But I just can’t remember’

After laughing a hearty laugh both Gabin and the Zorai head off towards Fairhaven, with Scamp running behind them, playing in the footsteps they leave in the sand.

Close: The sun is now lower in the sky, Fairhaven is preparing for the usual evening rush of pirates and other drunkards. Still. Oblivious to the events that have taken place

To be Continued.
