Roleplaying in Cities and Villages

There has been talk on WoW about this kind of thing happening before *shudders* but no one really seemed interested in doing it, I was wondering why we could not try Roleplaying in the main cities? I've heard all this talk about roleplaying going on while your traveling and hunting, yes, that's definately a nice thing to hear about, but what about the cities? Some of the places, such as bars and such, I've even noticed the odd empty stall or two littered around in Fairhaven, these would all be perfect places to roleplay in, not only that, it would make things easier for newer players who wanted to roleplay to actually find some roleplay, I myself am still having trouble finding people to roleplay with, though I've managed to find a roleplaying guild that fits what I want, but this could seem that much livelier if there were people actually using the city for something instead of drifting in and out to buy things from the NPC merchants.

An example of this would be a game which I think is almost one of the only games that I'm a true fanboi of, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, the game, whilst being offline, really makes you feel like your a part of the world inside by how interactive the NPC's are, they talk about rumours they've heard and give you information on different people and the personalities they have. I'm thinking this kind of thing would be just brilliant to help people just starting out with roleplaying and it would also give a nice roleplaying environment since I hardly seem to see any players around the cities anyway, not sure how we'd get this sorted out though, but I think the roleplaying guilds could almost certainly get involved here and it might even make an incentive for new guilds like traders and such.

The Samsara used to organise pub nights in Thesos. Sometimes me and my guild had a few meetings at the Yubo's leg (Pyr bar)

Yeah, it's definitely that kind of stuff I'm thinking about, we need more of that if we're to get more people interested in roleplaying and to attract new roleplayers, I practically worship that kind of stuff when I can find it, I'm just wondering if anyone feels the same way, it would be nice if we could get something set up as a community.

I fully agree, and have always felt that anyone sitting / standing at the bar best be in character, whatever your character might be :)

I remember that on the starter island, there would nearly always be folks sitting around a fire, usually the fire nearest the raw mats dealer (i guess since this is a high traffic area!), and that i had endless fun sitting around that fire discussing many, many Atys topics: missions, beasties, secret forage sources (and paying dearly for them!), super-secret love affairs, rumors of "Kitins", rumors of ranged combat, outposts, tribal conflicts, great temples to the Gods...

I have, on occasion, been privy to such events at the bars of the major towns on the mainland. Unfortunately, I guess that the vast size of the mainland (versus the relative tinyness of the island) means that it is not as easy to find, and it might very well be going on, but somewhere else - not at YOUR town at THIS moment...

But i do miss that! And i still feel that, if you are at the bar in MY town and i approach you, I just might strike up a conversation...are you ready? Are you YOU or some facsimile of you based on crappy RL crappy crap crap? :P Come on, let your Atys self shine!

Public roleplaying has been fun in my experience. I'd be happy to participate in it, though currently I'm not on Ryzom much so there'd have to be a time posted that I could plan to login during.

Maybe is a dumb idea, but... Why don't devs put a little tag, same that a PvP tag but for RP?

Just for people in RP mood can identify one each other. That would do things more interesting. A lot of times I start conversations in a more usual way, but, if I see a RPer with the tag on, I surely will use a "greetings, friend homin, I have never seen you before in this village, let me introduce you to the richness of this lands" rather than "Hi, man, New in Upper Bog? I know a source where you don't need almost cp".

I am sometime in RP mood, sometimes I aren't. So, a kind of tag like this is almost 0 efford for devs, and can be very useful for RPers, hardcore and occasional ones.

I love this idea, and am currently parked in Matis lands, and loving all the beautiful areas that would be perfect for this...let's nominate a day of the week, or two, and have a get-together! I say saturdays are the best, earlier (USA time) in the day, like noon. Or some time that everyone could join in.

I also know a few good hang out spots in fairhaven, but alas, I am indisposed, so I can't visit any of them
