Dodge vs. Parry

I have not seen a post on this topic, so excuse me if there has already been one. I was wondering if there was a known difference between Dodge and Parry. So far all I have seen is that there are different stats for each on weapons and armor, so is it better to just go with whichever one your equipment is better at or what?

light armors and casters usually use dodge, heavy armor uses parry. Med armor can use both depending on player.

as far as i can tell it only matters depending on what mats where used to make the armor

if the mats where high in dodge, use dodge
if the mats where high in parry use parry

I'm not at all sure whether the armor bonuses are actually showing up currently. The stats on the armor is bugged and show 0 no matter what you put in it. So currently its a mystery. In general you do dodge better with light armor than heavy but its not that big of a difference. I often dodge with heavy armor and dodge about as much as light armor. Parry seems to work better with heavy armor as you absorb alot of the rest with the armor itself. Unfortunately I have never made myself parry armor so I can't tell.

More info and a fix to the stat bug would help.

and as usual NOT a word from a developer.
So many bugs and lack of info and so little communication from the developers at a time when they need to be helping the small group of potential subscribers that they do have.

Thats not true Kamagi. Cerest has answered just about every question we have given him promptly, often within a day. The communication from them is very good in my opinion. The bugs are constantly being fixed, in other games you usually don't see fixes for weeks.

Honestly the only thing that is bugged in this scenario is the fact that the dodge modifier does not show up...it is still there jus doesn't show on finished armor. Simple solution, ask the person who made the armor for you if it was dodge or parry oriented. Don't see how whining about no info from a Dev even answers the original question. It Isn't their job to say which is better to use anyway so??

As far as the two go..I make mainly high dodge modifier Medium armor. I am not sure as to the relevance of any of that but anyway. Seems to work ok on the light and medium spectrum, havent played with heavy armor so couldn't say. Someone was told me as well...when facing a sword Parry is the way to go...when facing a unarmed opponent dodge was the way to go. Dunno if that hold true but sounds reasonable enough for me.

ok Korin I take your point - I guess its a new game so I should expect it to take a while to find answers to some questions. In a way its better than having all the knowledge lying on the table - that gets a bit boring too.
Having fun in game atm :)

Devs aren't really there to answer certain in game questions anyway. Thats up to your fellow players. They are only there to fix problems if there is one. This display bug is certainly a problem but to answer your question : Dodge seems to work better than parry in all circumstances that I have tested. Both in pvp and monster killing. I have armor made out of high dodge stats so my results may be highly biased.

Not really sure if this helps a lot but here goes.

I use a sword and dagger and med armor. I set to parry mode becouse with a sword and dagger i parry more then i would dodge. And yes i did count how many times i dodged comapired to parry. I was fighting a monster that drops QL 68 items, thats the best i can give you con wise of the monster. I myself am 63 in one handed and close combat. I fought 10 monsters with dodge on and i dodged a total of 64 times. Whne i went to parry that moved up to 86. Im not sure if it's armor with stats that im not aware of or just the fact that i have a sword and dagger.

Tho personaly it's a player choice, when you parry you have the attack after parry stnza that allows you a better to hit, and the dodge gives a bouns to dam. I personaly go for parry becouse i use sword and dagger, Dam isnt really what im going for, more along the line of landing every hit i can, and attack after parry stanza helps me do this.

hope this badly type little bit of info helps anyone
