Hackers & Botters

I have been playing Ryzom now for about 3 - 4 weeks, I have not seen anyone botting or complaining about their account being hacked.

I am in shock. The last mmorpg that I was playing was full of it.

Just wondering if there are any problems like that, or if I can use my playing account to post topics?

I have read that a few where punished for botting but I would not say it's a common thing on Atys.
As for hacked accounts, I don't think there has been any. Just don't give your account information to anyone and you should be ok.

Welcome to Atys :)

Welcome to Atys!

I wouldn't say botting is a problem, or has ever been. I think there were a few trying to, but were dispatched of swiftly.
Part of the reason lies within the nature of Atys itself, which probably doesn't lend itself to botting as much as other games do, part of it may lie in the players community which I perceive as quite mature, most of the time, that is ;)

This goes without saying, yet can't be emphasized often enough :)

The potential problem with that is: part of your account information is given away right below the post date. I have mentioned several times during beta and since that this poses a potential risk; I'd prefer to have a forum nick unrelated to my login or avatar's name.

So pick a strong password and enjoy the Living Planet ;)

Definitions to keep in mind:

"hacking"
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hack&r=f
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p ... acking&r=f

"cracking"
Usually the appropriate term for the act of maliciously gaining access to something like an account without the account owner's knowledge, consent, or enablement.

Bad stuff happening due to an account being willingly shared doesn't fit in either hacking or cracking categories.

:) Disclaimer: I am not implying that any particular one of these is more appropriate to the situation Lewy has referred to, since I don't know the details of that situation. Merely clarifying the terminology.

As mentioned the CSR's have and do do a great job but, more importantly the community is made up of alot of great people who take pride in the game and report evil-doing stuff quite quickly. To them my thanks from all of us and A very hardy Welcome to Atys to you! :)

Great clarification, Katriell. It's a bad term for me too.

The best term that comes to me for the people stealing accounts and so on is "lammer", more than "Hacker".

have to agree here, this game really is complicated enough to stop people like botters and sellers, it's the skill system I reckon, if they just went for ages grinding the same thing they'd be screwed simply because there are monsters out there that'd just gang up on you or run away, bots wouldn't be able to react easily to that type of thing, at least the ones that just run on simple scripts anyway. Plus they'd also have to constantly select abilities and such as well and a bot just simply doesn't have the intelligence to do that :P
