Ryzom

Recently, there seems to have been a lot of tension, both here and in the game, in relation to the Kami/Karavan alliances, and more specifically the Ryzom Outposts.

Now, I have only been playing a scant few months now, but, to be honest, it's already getting old.

I will admit, there are a few... shall we say... outspoken members on both sides of the divide. And of course, tempers will sometimes get strained in the heat of battle. But from what I've been seeing in recent weeks, the two sides are becoming more and more polarised.

So, seriously, can't we all just get along? We're all just here for one reason; to have fun! Sure, some of us may be separated by our alliances, but I say why let that come between us? Why not preach tolerance instead of hatred, understanding instead of intolerance, and offer out the hand of friendship to our fellow homins?

So please, let's leave our differences by the wayside and try and make friends. And if we can't manage that, can we at least be civil? Please?

Those outspoken voices are the heart of this great game... with your first post you have shown respect, but understand there is a great battle going on... the forums are merely the worst part of it.

Hey, this is pretty nice. You should have seen it when both sides shouted at each other in region during an OP battle, now that was harsh.

I think we had a couple of similar posts in the past... Things like: can't we all be nice again...

Alas the public realations wars are thought at these forums and not in game...

First off, I'm glad to hear that things are better now than they once were.

Although it may not be obvious from my previous post, I have a great deal of respect for the Ryzom community at large. Having played several MMORPG's in my time, I have to say that, by and large, Ryzom is by far the most mature, reasonable and friendly bunch of people I have ever come across. However, I think it is for this very reason that the discontent and ill feeling around currently saddens me so much.

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't expect perfection. I can quite understand that there will be enmities, that some people just won't be able to get along with someone, no matter how hard they try. It is true that an opponent is always beneficial, and that competition breeds innovation, but can we not achieve this with civility and grace? Accept that others may hold a different viewpoint, even if you may disagree with it. Speak with a civil tone, even if you find something frustrating. Be the better homin when faced with those who rage and insult, and walk away.

Perhaps I ask for too much, perhaps I'm simply too idealistic, but do you not think it might be possible?

Sadly I don't think they are that much better.

No you don't ask too much and we can only hope it is indeed possible.

I can guarantee more people do not participate in the OP battles then you'd think. Or, a lot of people's idea of fun is doing PvP and the tension it brings. I enjoy it, myself, but had to bow out of OP battles due to time constraints and a few other issues.
But while it seems like all is horrible sometimes, it can change like the tide. One day there can be 5 threads about who did what and why they suck, then the next day it can be all questions and answers, or posts about how happy they are.
I have learned to read it, be informed, but to not take it to heart.

Very sound advice . (Not necessarily easy to follow, however.)

Outposts are only a tiny part of Atys, and their output on these forums is entirely disproportionate.
