Production: New Missions

Currently
in development:
We are designing new missions for the mainland. For now, we are focusing on missions to welcome our refugees coming from the Ruins of Silan (RoS). When they will be done, we will work on missions for stronger Homins.
The first missions are made for characters with levels lower than 50. They will guide them through the region of Atys where they arrived from RoS. The city welcomer will give a first "mission" that will show some important NPCs of the capital city and will also offer a few harvesting, crafting and fighting (melee & magic) missions.
The goal of these first missions is to help the newcomer take his first steps on the mainland by accompanying him until level 50. They will be similar in the four civilisation homelands.

Please take a look at the advice I've written about missions?
Also, it's worrying that players will be led through their gameplay... That introduces the concept of completing regions, and eventually completing the game.
Coupled with Phelan's statement that "content" = "quests and bosses," does this mean Ryzom will be converted to a quest-to-the-end-then-raid-bosses structure?
Changing the nature of missions is potentially one of the most dangerous changes that could be made, second in potential effect to converting from skill system to class system. Please consider very carefully the ramifications of what you change, on the game's essence and on the community. Everything matters - what NPCs say, rewards, whether and how sequential linked missions are used, psychological impact on the player, formation of expectations, etc.

While I agree with the general gist of your post, and 2nd your suggestions in the thread you made, I'd hate to see that being taken as given and quoted in the future as being from Phelan.
[22:17] Souls_666> "you've made some references to more content - define 'more content'
[22:19] Phelan> quests and bosses. and whatever else is a good idea and doable.
Is what you're referring to I guess; considering he also said that they had no intention of making SoR like WoW, as well as his other comments about new lands/etc, plus the catchall "whatever else", I think that quests and bosses is just him saying what most people would be interested in considering the slight language barrier (ie quests is just a generic term for missions, just like ppl jumped on them for saying MMOG instead of MMORPG...
)
I mean if people don't want new missions or new bosses then fine, but personally I'm all for them
provided they don't turn the game into a WoW clone, and I don't think there's a risk of that
Notes:
[22:21] Souls_666> are there any plans to raise the level cap past 250 , or add new skills / spells / crafting options etc
[22:23] Phelan> yep, it is discussed.. we are discussing a lot, but that kind of suggestions would be best in the board in a new section so it wont get lost.
[22:23] Souls_666> I want to know if Ryzom is going to be a 'standard' mmorpg (quests, bosses, donjons) or will you try to make Ryzom more RP like it was before or even better
[22:25] Phelan> ryzom is by no means standard and that is what sets it apart. RP is a crucial part of ryzom, but RP lives thru the community, so it will be up to you. we will help though.
These are things I wish people quoted him more often on, and also considered the fact that all 3 of these Qs were very near the end of the 5hr+ lynching, he was probably quite tired by this point... I think we all were

I like the goal of the missions, helping new players with their first few steps on the mainland is a good idea. Now to wait and see how the missions are written and what the rewards are to see if I like them overall or not

I hope they will be more Rites like then missions. We already have more missions than we know what to do with.

The city welcomer will give a first "mission" that will show some important NPCs of the capital city
that has already been patched/implemented
you can go up to the city welcomer and ask about different kinds of NPCs and will be lead towards them

Well... at first, you have to know that there is a City Welcomer, not so evident when you are a newb in your first hours in mainland.

The city welcomer in Matis is like staring at you when you warp in... I don't see how you could miss him
Not sure if it's like that in all the cities.

Isn't there this mission in your mission log when you first arrive on the mainland that states 'Talk to the City Welcommer'?
As far as I know, that, and the fact the Welcommer points out the various npc's, has always been ingame.
