Ryzom with wine right now works absolutely wonderfully (with the exception of sound), and it seems like making a fully compatible port of it would be easy considering how well the client already responds to wine. Hopefully this will be done, and Ryzom will see even more Linux users.

there's also the ever present dual-booter who only keeps windows on his hard drive so he can play games. Whether you think so or not there are a lot of linux users who would be happy to have a game like ryzom be at least somewhat native. The popularity of cedega should make that much clear.

I'm developing a dislike for circular negative logic.

katriell, I was just using your guide to get this running in linux, and I wasn't sure if you knew about this or not, but if you do "wine explorer /desktop=foo,1024x768 client_ryzom_rd.exe " instead of just "wine client_ryzom_rd.exe" in the shell script you can make it to where a virtual desktop is created specifically for the client rather than having to switch virtual desktop support on and off in winecfg.

Good to know; thank you Maryen. =) I'm hoping to write a fresh guide sometime. Already have some work done on it. If it's alright with you, I'd include that?

hmm i just thinking about how many people will be drwan into the game cause you can run it on linux.... if you can give me a rough number of people you think it would draw in i would apericate that. just be best if we see the money/time it would cost to port the client to linux is equal or greater the number of people that would drawn to the game if the money and time would be use in marketing. or even in devlopment of new areas, and revamps on old skills to bring back old players...

i think at least 50k new players would be added to the server if there was a wine port of ryzom.
