Hello and question about races.

Hello there, I'm completely new to Ryzom world, just gave up Ragnarok Online (tired of it, indeed ^^)

You can't even imagine how much fun I had while reading Starter GUIDE. Many biggest thanks to the person, who created it. This comic format is awesome, and the guide itself looks really useful. :)

The one thing I can't quite understand is about races. Does the race of character affect his skills? For example, I remember in Lineage II elves were better in using magic than orcs, etc. Sorry in advance, if the question sounds stupid or my post contains some grammar mistakes.

P.S. One more question. I prefer playing in team, not solo. Is Ryzom suitable for this?

Hi and welcome to Ryzom :)

Your choice of race does in no way affect any skills of your charakter.
Appart from a ceratin resistance to their Race-Specific-Special-Spell ;) there are no differences in the races.
And Ryzom is a very Team-Player Game. Solo is possible but hard to do.

Other Help might be found in the Thread under my "Dear Newbes..." link in the Signature. ;) Although I´ll have to make a few changes to it ASAP *blush*

Welcome to the Bark.

Races here have, unlike in most other games, no real affinity towards a skill or do not convey bonuses to them. There is some affinity hinted at in the lore, but as far as gamemechanics allow it, any race is as good at using their skills as the next one.

The only skill being somewhat determined by race is the craftskill you start out with; each race has it's own craftingskill, but you are allowed to purchase those of others.

Some slight differences between races on top of that:
- different races get small penalties and bonuses towards resisting certain magic
- the reputation/fame they start out with towards factions and other races

ENjoy your stay.

I'm so glad to hear it. ) I usually choose a class depending on their appearance, and it's a pity to reveal in the end that this very profession doesn't suit my model of playing, and I have to choose another - ugly - class. +_+

yes, I've read about the factions already. The impression I got is that the Caravan is the center of evil and a group of nature-haters. :)
