Trade Channels for "Saga of Ryzom"?

To avoid cluttering Region Chat channels with "for sale" and "wanted" messages I suggest adding a Trade Channel to Ryzom's chat window.

I am sure people with items to buy and sell would greatly benefit from this. It could even help Ryzom develop a true player-economy. Services -- such as offers to lead treks, or lead others on Fame missions -- could also be offered in a Trade Channel.

I imagine some people for fear of being called "spammers" are hesitant to put "for sale" and "wanted" messages into Region Chat -- Trade Channels would remove this problem.

Perhaps there could be several Trade Channels -- REGIONAL trade channels for people who either lack TPs or want to buy/sell locally, and a UNIVERSE trade channel to serve the advanced players who have many TPs and are able to freely move about to all the homin homelands.

Thanks,
Amphiaraus

I'm very sceptic to adding trade channels to Ryzom to 'get the economy working'. Many players and crafters would no doubt not bother to turn it on unless they'd actually are in the position where they would need something themselves, others would see it as a spamm channel. Rather than a solution to the problem it circumvents it, answering to offer/demand on short terms only, leaving the economy itself still shattered.

Instead if GF can come up with a solution for the economy where crafters and forgers/hunters are given the incentive to offer their goods on the public markets, now that would be a step in the right direction. Ryzom is one of those games where social contact, getting to know or knowing the right people, means a lot. If you can not find what you are looking for on the markets (in the case of that possible solution where there's incentive to sell through the markets), there's always mouth to mouth advertising.

I think having to know people to get things crafted is something that adds to the community :) If you are a pain you will struggle to get anything crafted, i like the current system, its about who and what you know, rather than spamming a chat

I agree in that extra chat channels will likely just end up being turned off and even if not I doubt there'd be enough traffic to make them worth while, esspecially if regional. And I do prefer the regional system. Theres really enough channels as it is to keep up with, without anymore.

However, I like the thinking behind it. Perhaps some kind of in game note board where we can post public sales notices would work better? Even our own shops, though that'd be alot of work, something for the future maybe.

and since the universal chat is a q/a channel you can always ask: who needs ths and that and receive an answer from those who are interested :)

Seriously though I see no need for trade channel, however a players market is what is really needed.

In my opinion players market can be implemented as a kind of bilboard that shows what people have for sale (and stores it in a secure slot) and shows the price (barter requirement). If the price/requiremnt has been met the buyer gets the goods from the secure slot where the dappers/barter items will then wait for the seller. Such billboard should always show seller names and whether or not they are online for custom trades...

Having 1or 2 such markets ingame can really improve the economy imho...

edit:lol jayce great minds think the same eh? ;)

Heh, what about a market npc somewhere?
You pay him dappers to advertise your goods, bargains, and so forth.
Ooh, what's that? A money sink? And it helps your sales? Caching!

And another thing I was thinking off: the possibility of placing orders on the market.
Perhaps it could work such as the Overseer npc's, but with player created demands and offers of payment.

At first this sounds like a good idea but we have so many chats now I'm thinking most will just turn it off.
I have seen Homins try to give items away for free in Region and get little to no response. I thing the NPCs and forum are working well enough to get our crafted items sold.

*shudders*

I learnt my lesson once saying without thinking on kami chat i could make something. was swiftly buried in tells.

I would only use an automated mechanism in the game, such as markets, an auction house, taking orders from a notice board, etc otherwise you would never get time to do anything else

Add a forum interface that links to a) a special forum specifically made for it b) the bazaar forum here. Make it accessible from an NPC or w/e.

Game already has a vaguely working web browser in it (for b) and the ability to load custom webpages (for a) :)
