[Bugs] Ryzom services going down hill

At the beginning of the year some news was posted on improvments to the website and such, while the speed improvment is nice (though still slow at times) a few other problems have apeared.

The ones I've noticed so far are:

1) Some kind of cache error with the main website (?)

Pages displaying old info/versions of news and such.
A guy checking the server status when the shards were down last night didn't understand why they were showing as online, ofcourse it wasn't current...

Seems like adding trailing slashes to addresses often fixes the problem but why should we need to do that and if we really have to then why don't the links have one in?

2) Download Trouble
People still having problems downloading larger files from the site, game client, klients etc...

3) Forum url
This new subdomain (forum.ryzom.com) while nice and shiny is a pain in the neck for anybody trying to use old links. I mean, was it even at all necessary?

Many posts linking to other threads/posts on this forum which will now be wrong too.

4) Klients slow down
Klients was horrid last night when the shards we're down, as people said it never used to get that slow in there with 3 times as many people in it. Not sure if that was a one off or what but it wasn't pretty.

Some people having trouble connection I heard?

---

Also things like links being out of date since the switch over to plone are still hanging around, though thats not new.

Anyway, hopefully a little time can be spent on these (I think) important problems. This is the gateway to Atys for potential new players lets not forget. :)

(and oh, how funny... I press submit and I get "There seems to have been a problem with the database.", oh the irony XD)

I was so confuzled when I typed in "www.ryzom.com/forum" and then the page said it didn't exist...I went to another computer and then got redirected to the forums.ryzom.com. Meh.

ryzom.com and forums.ryzom.com is 2 different ip's now. i assume ryzom.com got moved to GF own (faster?) servers.

redirection.. well, cant make everyone happy ;-)

[technical] Before, Ryzom.* was generated on the fly by 2 Zope servers. While Zope is a quite powerful tool, it only makes sense if nobody is visiting your site. So we made the page static. As we have no free webdevelepment reources, we had to use the Zope code and copy it. Along with it we had to setup some really nasty rewrite rules.. [/technical]

Use the links on the homepage and update your bookmarks. ;)

On the other issues: we are working on it.

Thanks for a swift reply Phelan. now... where was our Devtracker so we can make sure people actully see this reply? :D

I usually spend my time ingame and on Klients, so I haven't really noticed any issues on the website... Downloaded the client thru torrent a few days ago for my second PC, and it took 40min or something at 800kb/s. No complaints when downloading Klients either.

Thanks for the reply, Phelan.

It was more any old links people had posted before elsewhere on this or other forums to interesting/useful threads that I was concerned about rather than finding its new location but oh well. :)

Well, and my guess as to the new machine name in the URL (forum.ryzom vs http://www.ryzom) is that they now have the freedom to seperate the two services cleanly, you need to append slashes probably because this plone garbage requires rewrite rules and some browsers aren't quite devious enough to trick the server in the HTTP request to get the 'right' page.

I need no trailing slashes, but my browser works out whether I meant one there or not, and supplys where it appears missing in the request, or retries that version immediately after it gets a response indicating that's not quite right or something :p .

I think I'm on board with phelan, the whole plone thing is the messiest implementation of a 'web based' tool I've ever seen. I'm sure in college it makes sense to write your own server in python, but where is the advantage in the real world?
