Just wanted to make an introduction before diving in to the forums further, though I'm on a free account there's only so much I'll be able to see.
I have tried Ryzom before but I never really got into it, I was mostly disapointed with the scripting of the quest lines at the time and used to games both single player and mmo that held your hand all the way to 'end game'. But as the year went on I've become really annoyed with the mentality that everything you do is to reach 'end game' and then what? Wait for an expansion and yet another end game... This has become very tedious, and I can't stand being being dependant wholly on items, especially when acquiring those items means plugging yourself to an IV for a week and not move from your desk I also have the impression that this game is more open ended? There's not really an ultimate goal, you just sort of live in the world?
So now I'm in Silan and having a great time, I get the feeling that armor, weapons and general items are important but not in the same way as in other games? And if you have the funds you can equip yourself satisfactorily without sleep deprivation?
The art style is so stunning, but I had a hard time getting used to the alien feel of the races. I was first drawn to the Matis, like a lot of people I think, because of their ethereal beauty and their beautiful architecture. But playing one made me feel like I should own the world and everyone else owed me something.... O.o Didn't like that, so next I went with Fyros, but my Fyros although passionate, always seemed angry with the world, that didn't suit me either. Since I'm usual a happy little thing, I finally decided to give Tryker a road test even though initially their looks didn't appeal to me. But lo and behold, it was my favorite choice. My little Tryker girl had sparkling eyes, a jolly spring in her step and a love of discovering treasure.
I also debated which server to pick, Arispotle probably has the most choice of guilds, but I don't know when I'll be able to join one as I'm in the middle of a big move in RL and don't want to subscribe to anything... So I went with Cho, it has time to grow still. So if you see a Trykette named Hazi feel free to say hey. ^^
I've also modded a bit before in FFXI with only one released, and now in Elderscrolls: Oblivion with none released yet, I'm wondering how intuitive you think the Ring is compared to the Elderscrolls CS if you've played, and how much success people have had with it, and more importantly how much fun it is =D. Also can a Ring 'instance' be designed as a player home or base? That would be my first attempt I think.
Thanks for reading!

Welcome to Ryzom!!
Armours and weapons are not like they are in other games. As such, nearly every item is crafted.(besides the items from Silan missions) So, you won't go kill an Orc and have the 0.00000003% chance of obtaining the +18 Sword of Uberness. Everything is crafted by players and can be obtained very easily.
Ryzom is very open-ended. The only thing you MIGHT be able to call "end-game" would be get lvl 250 in every branch. But that is nearly impossible and no players has done it so far in its 2 year history. You can always find something to do, and with the Ring open, even more possibilities!
Glad you picked Cho. I myself reside on the more desolate Cho. So if you ever need any help or just want to chat, look up the blue Zorai Zandryok.
And again, welcome to Atys!!

Hello zangan and oh mighty tigrus
I'm very happy to hear there's no rare drops and all is crafted, I don't usually like crafting but in this game it's more dynamic, and the harvesting is really cool! It's not just digging and digging, you have to think and use timing and the right skills, that makes me happy. And the Ruins of Silan make it a lot easier to learn the basics compared to my first trial a year or so ago which was 7 days I think, and on a race specific island? If I remember correctly, it was a little harder to get a good grasp of how to manage your skills, so the new newbie island gets a big thumbs up here.
Another thing I'm excited about was some of the comments I read about on mmorpg.com forums (yeah I know...), that this game was pretty stress free, you can go at any pace and not feel like you are missing out on anything, and the best part is no one has a feeling of 'uberness' because they saw 'end game' (therefore must be the BEST players on the server..)
Okay now I'm just ranting and stating things everyone here already knows My other question is wether there are any 'neutral' guilds on Cho? I also read that being completely neutral is harder, in which ways exactly? If I can't find a neutral group I think I'll go with Kami as the Karavan creep me out. ^.^
Also Zangan I would love to visit your Firewine Springs sounds like a neat place! I'm very curious about the Ring so I think I'll go play with that today. It looks like I am not moving after all, so I may get a subscription after I have done everything in Silan.

Hi hazira, welcome to Ryzom!
I agree with you about Silan, it is very nicely put together for helping new players get to grasp with the basics and yep your right it used to be seperate starting islands for each race.
I think Ryzom is as stressfull as you make it, I'm a slow leveler casual player and I don't feel like I miss out on anything. I'm still having fun with my friends whenever I log on
There are a few neutral guilds. Here is a list of the guilds on Cho, hopefully you'll find one to your liking. You are able to stay neutral in a kami or karavan guild though but can't be kami or karavan in a neutral guild and being neutral is considered hard because they get less teleports that they can use, although that only really hurts in the Prime Roots in my opinion.
Also if you need help on Silan on Cho try asking in universe, some players (Caylin I know for sure and maybe Beefy) have alts on Silan that they are happy to help out with.
