Ryzom

I changed the title of the thread because I didn't come across the way I intended.
I'm quite interested in Ryzom, but I also have limited funds and I'm a tight-wad. I do not want to subscribe to the game and find out moments later that I hate it. Silan is quite enjoyable, but as others have stated, Silan and the trial are misleading. The mainland is quite different from the island. I don't want to be lured into the game by what Silan has to offer and then be let down after I pay. Given the low level cap of the island, I think the unlimited time on the trial is overkill. I'd much rather see the trial limited to 15 or 30 days, but allow access to the entire game so I can get a feel for what the game is truly like. I may really like it, but I'm very skeptical about paying because of the way the trial currently works. Whether intentional or not, it seems as if a lot of effort was put into Silan to "trick" people into subscribing. The fact that you cannot move to the mainland makes it appear as if someone is trying to hide the real game from us and present us with a trial that doesn't reflect the actual game.

I'm looking to experience something that will convince me to put my $15 into Ryzom instead of putting it into my existing WoW account. Silan was enough to convince me until I heard about how different the "real" game is from Silan.

Silan is the way it is because it's a tutorial. I highly doubt there was nefarious intent in its design, considering how honorable Nevrax usually acts.

All i can say is that the ML is really cool and fun to be on,i`m on the mainland since sept 2005 and did not regret it for 1 single minute of it.
You may think now ..oh he must have seen it all by now...but no way mate i have not,besides that this game has a great Lore thats under constant development....think they even havent shown us fully of what this game is capable of or potential has.

But hey it`s ure money and ure choice only to decide to join the ML or not

The new player island is set up with missions to help teach players to learn how to do things in the game. Cast spells, fight, craft, collect resources, ect..


The monsters there are kept mostly within reason for the level 21 or less player. The game does lean towards group hunting or travel and that is shown on the isle as well with some of the later missions. The starter town I started in and my husbands starter town (as they were not the same since we are different races), both offer lower level monsters around the town. As you venture out more you find more challenging.


When I came from the isle I was not sure what to expect and it took me a few days to make the transition. But now after being here a week or so (ML) I can see how the isle was set as a teacher really. Why not try it for one month, and you will see how the island is set to teach and prepare you for much harder challenges.




PS be sure to read all the text the missions give as they are there to teach you *how to * do things in the game.

After sleeping on it, I can see how my post would come across as more negative than I intended. Regardless, for $15 bucks, I think I can loosen the purse strings enough to give it a try. I could do worse with the money, like watch two bad movies in a theater, which would result in less than 6 hours of entertainment that wasn't very entertaining.

What are the popular play times, ie., when are the most and least number of people in the game? I'm in the US eastern time zone, but if someone responds, I can convert GMT or whatever your local time zone is. Thanks!

Also, which race is the most and least popular? From what I've read, it "appears" that the Zorai have a low population, and it sounded like a lot of people can be found in the Tryker lands. If there is a large difference in the number of people playing the races, is there a reason?

Oh, I still stand by my suggestion. I think it would be more beneficial to the player to change the trial to a set period of time, say 15 or 30 days, but open up the mainland and maybe even raise or eliminate the cap. I can't post in the feedback forum, perhaps because I'm using a trial account. Perhaps I'll post my suggestion in the feedback forum later.

IMHO the only reason Zorai are not that well liked (read often played), is their "inhumannes" in a Game where most races look rather human.

I'll be logging back in after I get the client re-downloaded. I was removing old files yesterday to free up some space and I uninstalled Ryzom and deleted the installer because I was mad about the level cap in the trial. Now the download from http://uk1.dl.nevrax.com/ryzom-installer_060928.exe keeps dying on me. Luckily, I'm using 'down them all' in Firefox, so I'm able to resume. I should have used 'flashget' instead though. I can't figure out why 'down them all' won't auto-retry when the download dies.

EDIT: Got it downloaded. Is there a list of slash command somewhere? example: /invite <character name> /quit /logout /sit /stand /godmode :-p

EDIT: Edit again. I found these, perhaps there are more somewhere? We need to get a sticky with all of the slash commands imo.

I have discovered that typing the beginning of the name is enough (for as long as not others with similar names are near, so instead of /tar kirijoleth also /tar kiri works)

My wife and I have played almost every MMO out there at some point or another, including a couple that are now offically dead... And she likes this one the best of any we have ever played.

I think you will enjoy yourself. We have found the community to be the best and most helpful of any game we played, even if it isnt the largest. But of course that could be part of the reason they are so helpful.
