client_ryzom_rd.exe Access Violation

The game starts up just fine and it logs in and checks all the files and then it gets to the character selection screen. I select an empty slot since I don't have any characters and then it pops up with this message:
"Access Violation exception generated at 0x374672A, thread attempts to read at 0x14.The thread attempted to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access."
And the game just shuts down. This is REALLY frustrating since I would like to play the game soon!
