I bought a new computer. Reinstalled ryzom using CDs.
Logged on and it wants me to do about a 2 gb patch.
Looks like this is going to take 30 hours.
I have a good DSL connection.
Do I really have to take 30 hours?

download latest client from ryzom.com ?

Throw away the cds! Like Blaah said, download the latest installer. 1.6 GB in one go is much faster than patching it all. Note, even the latest installer will likely have some patching to do, but only a few minutes worth, not hours.
