Another (different) account/char question

I stopped playing Saga of Ryzom when Nevrax got rid of its US server (I didn't want the lag of playing on a UK server). However, I am now thinking about coming back (when it's allowed again).
My question is this: will I be able to use my character from the old US server? Faall wasn't too high level in combat or magic, but was around 150 in harvesting and crafting. Is (was) there some character transfer tool, or were US chars automatically transfered to the UK server? I'm beginning to lose hope especially now with all this business about Nevrax. Don't know if I'll be coming back if I have to do all that scrounging for nuts and bark just to get back to where I was before
Offshoot question: I had to make a "free trial account" to post on the boards because apparently my real account is locked. If I do have to make a new char and if I decide to play on the starter account, I won't be able to turn this free account into a real account unless I buy the game again, right? (because my cd key is already tied to a different account). Or will I somehow be able to transfer my cd key?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: another question is there any compelling reason why I should download the client rather than install it from the (almost 2 yrs old) cd I have?

Your old character will probably still be available on the UK server. All the characters from Windermeer were transferred to Arispotle when the servers got merged.
You don't have to pay for the game itself as it is all in the download, you just pay for the subscription to play it. You can have multiple paid for accounts (with different usernames, of course).
Downloading the client or patching from your original CDs are likely to involve much the same downloads. The game has changed a lot since the last CDs were released, so I'd just go with downloading a fresh client.
You might (only might) be able to get you old account unlocked. Ask on Klients (see the support forums). I know that some other people have been reactivated after the Nevrax announcement regarding subscriptions.

All of the Windermeer characters were merged onto Arispotle and Faal should still be waiting for you when you can reactivate your old account.
For a long time now you have not had to buy the game to play Ryzom, it is only necessary to subscribe. I wouldn't recommend installing from cd since the updating process is likely to take longer than downloading a new installer.

download the client, the patches demand it.
Your character may have been deleted, after all you have not played in a long time. But hopefully it is still there. A lot of people have come back after a long time and found their characters still around.

Just adding the following info, and clarify a few things:
* Your account is locked due to Nevrax status -receivership- they are not allowed to get or activate new accounts or to upgrade from free trial to full account. This seems to be temporary until the game is bought. This does not mean your account was deleted (I would think the opposite, if it says "it's locked").
* Your Windermeer account was transferred (all were transferred in bulk). In the process, iirc, all characters that were not at least lvl 20 were deleted. As a side effect, some characters were renamed, to avoid clashes. As stated, you get a special "Wayfarer" title.
* Afaik, Nevrax only "officially promised" to keep old/desactivated accounts for 3 months (sometimes it was stated 6). The truth is, they seem to have kept all accounts -- smart move, imho -- and I know some players came back with their old accounts after more than one year away, so yours is, I'd say, ok.
* If things go well, you may be able to "reactivate" your old, locked account in a few days / weeks, depending on who gets the game/assets. More concretely, at that point, you will be able (I guess of course) to chose whether you activate your old account, you upgrade the free trial (or both).
* In any case, the CD key and other "game/box purchases" no longer applies. The client is the same for all accounts, and I agree the best move is to re-download it from a recent link, assuring a minimum number of patches to apply. The alternative way, patching a game as it was in Sept 2004 to today may be slow, (unreliable) and painful.
