Ryzom "bloom"

sorry if this has already been posted, an article from a week or so ago,

would you guys play using this mode? looks a bit headache inducing at high levels, but at the lower levels looks pretty nice
anyone know of any other games that use this technology?
oh and check the goggles

Well, I don´t think that you´ll
have to crank it up to highest level. *L*
Admittedly I can´t quite see what it should do for my play from screenshots, so I´ll first have to see it in function to decide.
So, dunno, maybe.

erm, actually bloom isn't in the least headache inducing and you even keep your crisp graphics, what it does is add a bit more reality.
do this:
open notepad or something of that sort on your screen so it is pure white.
hold your hand up against a white sheet of paper.
now hold your hand up against the screen.
in both cases you can clearly see the sharp border of your hand, but in the latter case a bit of the brightness bleeds over onto your hand. that's what bloom adds.

I commented on the "in test" Bloom news item...from the example screenshots it looks good at low levels and just general image degrading at high levels.
Low levels looks like it has the effect of increasing haze with distance and making glowing effects more glowy. Not sure what a "square filter" is...
So is this live? I'm on vacation and can't try it ingame...just going by the screenshotted examples.

Nope, it´s not life yet. Dunno if its even on the Testserver yet.
But I wouldn´t think so.
There are other things on their heads right now, y´know. :-/

in my opinion bloom looks pretty cool as long as its not too strong. and they say we get a strength slider...
most of the newer games use this feature and HDR (some kind of advanced bloom?) too. for example Source engine (HL2, Dark messiah), Oblivion....

HDR looks cool, but cant handle bright colours too well, sometimes it "whites" out the scene
Like a beach scene, with the sun hitting light coloured sand and turns it into a snowlike scene it gets so white.

That happens when someone makes very reflective sand ;p
