I've been playing on Arispotle for a month now and am a bit curious about homin children. I've red most of the lore and understand that most homin on Atys come from the Primal Roots somewhere. Something has bugged me though...where are the children??
I read an interesting article about Zoraï and their masks, where it says that every zoraï get their masks when they ritually become declared adults. This got my curiousity going...have any of you seen a zoraï without a mask?

In general, most MMOs don't depict children, or if they do they are sparse. I'm not sure why, but if you'll notice... there's no old people either. I think we just pop into silan at the age of perfect 22 and never die... or procreate.
Seriously, they're around
Just as old people are around and... food, chairs, beds and other day to day life things are hidden neatly away somewhere too.
As for Zorai without their mast, there are none in game. But lore stats that Zorai did not always take masks, so they -do- have regular faces... or did, before their masks were attached. Honestly, lost desire to play a zorai much when I discovered they don't come off. The mystery of what's behind that was answered "Nothing" -.-

I seem to remember back when I started, homins that got married, could have children coded into their relationship after a certain amount of time, but I dont think it was implemented.

I am an avid reader of Homin lore and corresponding threads and if memory serves well, I´ll recount what I remember here
Homins are born and bred like normal "humans". Except because of the nanoseed they are exceptionaly longlived, wich makes children a somewhat rare sight. (Overpopulation anyone?
)
Interracial marriages and breeding are possible, but the child will always aquire just the trades of one of the parents races. So a Matis/Fyros liason could produce either a matis or a fyros child but no "halfbreed". Lore states that´s the nanoseeds doing again.
Offgame reason states: No halfbreed/children Charaktermodels yet
Every Homins race has their own traditional ceremonies of marriage you can find on the
chronicles site, with a bit of searching.
But surely a lot of players (as I did myself) have developed their own ceremonies for their respective faith.
And last, but not least: There ARE old people!
Walk up to, for example, the Raw Material Merchant, or the Town welcomer in Yrkanis, switch to ego-view and look at their faces. If your Machine is up to it, you´ll see lines and crinkles adorn their faces. And they look quite old to me.
So does the Barman in Fairhavens Tavern.
I haven´t looked for an older fyros yet but I´ve fiddled a bit with the charakter creation and it is definetly possible to create a charakter that looks "older" then others. With the right build and the right tatoos.

That was something that was on the long term plan - one of the original visions for Ryzom. It was touched upon in a devchat with David Cohen before release. The basic concept was that 2 characters would 'breed' and produce an offspring. The parents would then age and die and the child would go on.
Just one of the many great ideas that Nevrax didn't have the cash to achieve.

In at least one to-remain-nameless MMO, children were coded but never depicted, because NPCs could be killed. It came out in a chat with the dev/production team that the reason they were never implemented was because people had serious issues with the ideas that players could enact, even in a video game, serious representations of 'child abuse'. They did not want to risk very bad public relations by having someone's mother or something see this (that's the gist - I'm explaining it poorly this morning).

So you are saying that the elderly and children are like bathrooms on the original starship Enterprise...we all know they were there, but we cannot talk about them or see them?

on Silan they are in those tents you can't enter...on the mainland they are in the apartments you can't enter.
