Newbie Questions!!!

Howdy folks

I'm playing the free trial and I have to ask...

If it's unlimited, what advantages are there to being a subscriber? Again, I've only just started playing the game, so go easy on me. What are the differences? Also, I hear that this game is developed with a program that is open source. What program would that be? I'm no programmer by any means, but I'd love to have a look at it. Am I wrong in assuming this?

Also, are there any sites that best describe how to get started in this game? I find it kind of hard to get started in this game, so any, ANY help is greatly appreciated. The learning curve is certainly not that steep, but it's something new and fresh, so this supposed "seasoned" veteran is having to learn new tricks hehe, but this is DEFINATELY a good thing. :)

hi Bay45, welcome to Atys.

The trial is unlimited for time, so no 14 days trial etc. But you cannot level above level 21, or go to the mainland. And the mainland is much much bigger then the starter isle.

The game engine is 'NEL', dont know much about it, you might try google it, try at nevrax.com.

There is some documentation about the game here: http://www.ryzom.com/documentation (thanks Lokire for that!)

I'm sorry, but being a fellow journalist (at least from your Editor in Chief status), I have to shake my head at you in disappointment for your effort in researching. However, the majority of your questions are answered at a thread just a few titles below yours. Take a look here.

Indeed, the game is open source, source code nessisarily isn't a program. The source code is called the NeL engine, which more can be found at http://www.nevrax.org, however, don't be expecting to be diving into the game looking for stuff ;) The game has a secondary system called the RAID engine, which is private :) hehe

And as for sites, try http://www.ryzom.com/community

Hope you got what you are looking for. Feel free to look up the game manual or some nifty guides at http://www.ryzom.com/documentation, and there is always the forum.

Welcome to the Living Planet, and enjoy the rest of your stay :)

LOL, aye, I normally have time to try and search this stuff out, but was at my full time job when I posted. So it wasn't laziness per se, but more out of expediency. :p

Right now, I'm the only guy posting reviews, so needless to say I'm trying to do many games at once while keeping a job, spending time with family etc.

That being said, if anyone would like to write for this game, by all means, I'll provide the space on the site for their own Ryzom section. I really want to give this game a fair shot but that's going to take awhile. Obviously it can't be learned overnight.

To those that posted, I appreciate your comments and help. It's my hope to try and make this game one of my more frequented stops. It seems to have a lot going for it, but where I'm located (Eastern Canada) very few people have heard of it. It's my hope to change that. :)
