Ryzom

My name is Kyle, and I just started Ryzom. I'm currently about to start the free trial and thought I'd say hi. I'm a humongous Seahawk fan (I write for the Seahawks site, Seahawks.Net) and a MMORPG veteran (AC1 and 2, EQ1, DAoC, SWG, WoW, GW with brief trysts into Horizons, AO, UO, DDO, and SB) this game looks like a real good one. I love the skill system already... reminds me a little of AC1, which is my alltime favorite game but it's dieing and the graphics are last century (literally! =P)...

So yeah, I figured I'd say hi. I'm normally very active in the community and I love to chat, and the community here looks extremely friendly. Any little tricks of the trade that you've learned would be super appreciated, other than that hope to see some of you guys in Atys...

Hey welcome to Atys! If you haven't done so already check out this comic-style intro guide to the newbie area, it helps with any initial disorientation. There's a lot to take in, but if you follow the 4 trainer NPC's quests in that area you will get a good taste of all 4 branches of the skilltree.

I can't think of any real 'tricks' that come to the top of my mind, except maybe... Remember you can mark places on your map! Don't be afraid to cover it with little purple flags, at least until you can memorize certain things.

Otherwise, keep your arms and legs inside your armor and avoid things that look lanky and run fast. They tend to eat you. Except maybe Zorai. It's too hard to fit your parts through their mask-mouths.

Stupid newbie question, but I can't find a definitve answer... Does race impact what career paths? IE, can a Fyros can be as capable a magic-user as a Tryker, or Zorai, etc? I don't get too caught up in the stats game but just curious.

Actually I believe the mask to have a certain flexibility, if you look at the sample animation in character creation you will see the eyes widen and the mouth fairly expressive. We Zorai are simply more calm in our demeaner than our more excitable cousins.

Glad to know I wont be the lone looney one. About to go in game, patches are done... Fyros to start... I live in WA and it's been flooding, I could seriously go for some heat right now.
