Just got done with everything and now im on the mainland sooo... yea now what? What do most people focus on? Does everyone go after the missions like WoW, or maybe just go find mobs that give good xp like RO. Just need something to guide me in the right path. Since I got here I havent made a thing or tried harvesting, just tried delivery missions and a few hands at the mobs in the area. Thanks

Do whatever you feel like doing at the time. Plenty of freedom in Ryzom.
Perhaps find a guild and they should be able to help you find something to do, if you havn't already that is.

The best route to avoid frustrating or boring (respectively) yourself is perhaps to do neither of those.

Explore.
Roleplay.
Find a guild.
Join live events.
Join player events.
Do scenarios on the ring.
Trade.
Try and uncover lore.
Encyclopaedia missions.
Trek to other lands.
Get that Mektoub/Apartment you've always wanted.
You know... stuff.
What else is there to do IRL apart from grind your job?

I always end up setting up long and short term goals in mmo's which keeps me busy.
My long term goal in ryzom is to earn our guild an apartment, since we're just 3-4 guys playing, it's no simple task but should be doable.
Short term goals are to get myself a mektoub mount, improve my ammo crafting so I can dabble into launchers, and getting my circular attack stanza (almost there!)
I despise mmo quests. I want to decide what to do myself. I don't *want* to gather 50 rat tails just now, I don't see where the fun is in being told where to go to explore, or having to trek back and forth to places you don't feel like going.
God forbid should they be "necessary" quests like class changes or whatnot.
Oblivion and the other elder scrolls is a good example. I think I got to level 35 or something (which is when it virtually starts to soft cap as you can't progress further in your skills) before I even considered starting the "storyline". What makes rpg's and mmo's compelling to me is that you write your own story.

I found that I approach missions on the mainland differently than I did on the island (or in other games). Got into the habit of picking up enough to fill my journal and just let them finish themselves rather than going seriously out of my way to complete them. Especially true of the messenger missions, since my life is too short to intentionally search the whole of a region just to get an extra 1000 dappers. If I bump into someone, however, then it is free money. Using spoiler sites is anathema to me though...What on earth is the point of that, especially in a game where you aren't compelled to do the missions? Have made more efforts with the fame missions though and I'm looking out for the encyclopaedia missions.
