Combat is much like Everquest. Find a foe to engage and watch your character swing away (at least for the lower levels, I know it gets better once you've acquired more abilities). User skill doesn't have all that much to do with things in my opinion.

I believe the game can only be downloaded by people whose country has not yet gotten the game, but I could be wrong on that. Sorry...
