Why the Pumpkins?

Hi all
Why do we have pumpkins in game? I have been away a few months and seems Ryzom needs to feed off WOW and GW for ideas? bloody Pumpkins!... but why though? 4 races to play, some gods, lots of religions and the best you can up with is pumpkins! at what point did nevrax think pumpkins was a good idea? you have a /% stake in wall mart, or another greengrocer? _ I live In UK and Pumpkins have little to do with me or my gaming, until now!
I had no problem with pumpkins or Ryzom until last night.. now I have a big problem for me, really I play a game to get rid of real life stuff (in the main) and like to play for escapism etc, and after playing ryzom tonight with I might add bloody Pumpkins!, where is the escapism.
It seems you are trying to tell me that prevalent through all worlds there are pumpkins or just cloning afore mentioned games. Lots of festivities you can try and your designers are far less than stupid, but pumpkins for me is real cheesy.
I doubt i play ryzom again after seeing the dreaded pumpkins, it spoiled game game for me and was looking forward to coming back.
I cancel my 3 accounts today, I hope you enjoyed your pumpkins and doubt I be ever be back after this. A shame, was fun why it lasted, well for first year anyhow.
Down with the pumpkins!

I am SO tired of seeing people cry over this damn event, It was meant to be fun! Why can't you people just have fun instead of whining over every damn thing the Devs do, If I was them Id say to hell with it, Because no matter what they do peopel whine...
I can't beleive you people! I mean common!!! OMG! PUMKINS!!! Thats so horrible... They made it into a kitin invasion! They could have had trick or treating and zombies!!!
Granted some aspects of the event were not perfect (Like the boss loots, something needs to be done next time, Like auto loot and everyone who was fighting it gets something, Not just the last person/team to get a hit.) But over all its a pretty good event... And they didn't even name it holloween, Its slaughter week, Not even just the 31st of october!
So what if there was a few RL things in there... in reality you wont see many infinetly burning gigantic pumkins anyway...
GET OVER IT... HAVE SOME FUN!... God dammit.......
/end frustrated rant
/going to bed
In the famous words of Eric cartmen... "screw you guys! im goin home"
P.S. This post is not aimed only at you Tini, its aimed at everyone who has whined and cried about this event over the past few days...
P.S.S. Sorry for rudness but migraine can do that to ya.

Ohwell....
These dreaded beasts will be gone come Sunday.
It´s Halloween after all.
Same as we had christmastrees for fun, we now have Halloween-Pumpkins.
If you realy have such a huge problem with that, I´m sorry for you but I can´t help it.
It´s for fun, if you can´t enjoy yourself if something´s not just the way you want it, its a shame.
CU and enjoy whatever you will do in the future.
But be asured that there´s no game out there that does not do similar things.

if you're seriously quitting the game over something as trivial as this, all I can say is:
"Don't let the screen door hit ya where Jena split ya"

Regretfully, I understand Tinil's point.
Pumpkins do not exist on Atys.
The presence of pumpkins can be perceived as indicative of a deeper error of incongruity, and behind that, carelessness.
However, I'm not terribly upset about the pumpkins. I simply ignore them. Haven't heard any other roleplayer refer to them, either.

Well this is true. However whats the harm, and to unsub over something as trivial is kind of silly.
Seems to me that everyone is getting wound up over something that is supposed to be fun. How many people quit over Easter eggs and Christmas yubos? I'll hazard a guess that there weren't that many.

I wasn't quite as cynical at those times.
But, to be constructive in criticism:
- The Christmas trees should have been an Atysian breed, perhaps alinea, instead of generic Earth conifer.
- Not all of the yubos should be costumed. Maybe half, or a third. It's conceivable that some Tryker prankster could've dressed up a bunch of the yubos, but not all of them.
- Where did the eggs come from? Do izam eggs have special properties that for some reason we were only able to use during a certain time?
- Pumpkins should be something Atysian as well. Perhaps a potted and carved fongice.
- The sudden appearance/infestation of festive items needs a lore explanation. Why did some homins go around decorating all the towns like that?

In pretty much every online game I've played there has been an inclusion of real world holidays into the game world. Do they ever fit? No. But ... most people enjoy the event(s) and it is something that the player (not character) relates to and is in their thoughts and conversation.
I would suggest taking the holiday events in the spirit in which they were ment rather then throwing a hissy fit.
