A newcomer with a few questions

Hiya. I just came aboard with this free trial thing, which I will probably be making a full account. I've seen the game before, and I find it quite fascinating. However, before I got in too deep, I was hoping I could get a few questions answered:

1) What exactly is the difference between the kami and the karavan factions in-game? I heard something about Kami giving out spells as faction items, but I know little more than the lore about them. I'm leaning towards Kami, but I'm undecided.

2) What is the deal with the Cho server? I saw some vague posts about it being slightly borked by the current low population and the kitin invasions and stuff. It'd be kind of cool to get onto a newer server, but I'd like to know what I'm getting into.

3) How big is the RP element in game? I am an avid roleplayer, but I don't quite have a good feel for the races involved yet, or the size/activity of the RP population. Thoughts?

4) Any big do's/don'ts I should be aware of before plunging headlong into the world?

Thanks in advance for your help. I look forward to seeing you all in game.

1. Kami Good Kara bad, simple really :)
2. Cho is good if you are a new player as there will be more people your level to team with and the guilds are all starting off.
3. I reckon if you want good RP go to Arispotle
4. Yes, dont join Kara, do join Kami :)

*No Kara were hurt in this avertisement for Kami Domination :p

phew. For a moment there I was afraid you might be giving a biased opinion.

Wait, I thought the Kami goal was simply "balance" and not domination? Normally when the word "domination" is used, it's followed by people spitting on passing karavan players and cursing Americans and all kinds of gnashing of teeth.

*all comments are intended tounge-in-cheek. I think that should be obvious, but just in case it's not

Okay, well I think we've proven that Ryzom is quite RP immersive :) Now for some real answers *winks*

In-game there is very little actual difference between Kami and Karavan. Mainly it determines what teleporters you can use and what kind of outpost materials you would get if your guild had an outpost.

I myself have a character on Cho and yes, it is rather rough there with the kitins everywhere. This will only last until the event is over however, so if you want to be part of a brand new (less than a month old) server where everyone is more or less equal, that's the way to go. Or if you want to be someplace where there is a greater population and there are plenty of high level crafters and established guilds, then choose Aris.

As for any dos and don'ts, just be courteous and don't be afraid to ask questions! The community here is one of Ryzom's greatest jewels.

Good luck and welcome!

No, balance is the neutral goal. Kami domination would arguably be worse cos they are all in our time-zone *grins*

* Note: equally tongue in cheek.

I believe most kami Myself included are for restoring balance.

I consider myself part of an alliance of free homins, In which yes Kami is the predominant belief structure, but it is not kami exclusive. Moderate karavan and neutrals are welcome in our ranks as long as they do not seek to dominate and respect others decisions to follow whichever path they choose.

well thats my point of view anyway. and I believe many share it.

Peace and balance ;)

About #4, there is lots of good RP. There are several RP-oriented guilds (I'm in one), and those are listed in a sticky in the guild forum. Get into a good RP guild and you will have tons of fun RP. Atys is an interesting world with lots of stuff to RP about.

*chuckles* great in theory, but as a moderate Kara I don't think folks in the alliance would be happy when I defend a Kara outpost or kill a tagged Kami alliance member ;)

That said, I'll let it be known that there are a great many Kami that I like and respect and in the beginning we were all Homins before we factioned :)
