Classes

Couple questions,

Is a Fighter based char with some magic skills like fear and etc better than a full mage with fighter stat increase (like HP increase, etc)

Or more generalized, is a Fighter better at PvP than a Mage, seeing as fighters get mage skills as well, things like fear and such, yet a mage cant use the fighters armor, or there good weapons.

Actually, in Ryzom, there are no classes. You can develop all skills for every character. It is usually better to level up the melee skills first, getting more HP and stats, before getting into magic. Healing, however, is also good to develop early.

Good for who? You can not cast your healing spells on yourself.

The good about healing is more on the community level, sure a bit higher wisdom and intelligence gives slightly lower downtimes if you solo skill magic (or hrmm. yeah, vampirism... *cough*) but the real benefit is that if you heal well you get invited to teams again and can skill your other skills much faster.

Note that you _can_ cast while having armour and weapons in your warrior role but it is drastically slower and costs a lot more sap/hp to cast and doesn't gain benefits from any magical amplifiers. When you dress up as warrior you can still cast spellls but not even remotely as good as when you wear light armour and magic amplifiers.

See it more like you can be a hybrid but at a given moment you choose what role (class) you currently play. Switching gear/class doesn't take much time but it takes time and if the situation is bad it is usually no time to undress, dress, reequip and cast some defensive spell (like fear) before it's too late.

I think it all depends on which route you want to go...Therefore it can ALMOST seem like separate classes. Because I certainly found it easier to train in one or two particular areas...

My character is a healer, and I focus more on magick and the like. My fighting skills...not so good, but I can still hold up on my own. I think it also depends on which type of glameplay you like. If you like to help others and take part in a group, healing magicks and weaker offensive magicks are the way to go. If you like to slaughter things, I'd focus more on fighting and melee skills.

But that is just my opinion...I haven't been in a team yet, and I still hold up pretty well despite being a magick caster.

What I was trying to get at, was a fighter vs a mage, fight has lower mage skills, mage has lower fighter skills, or let's even say there at the same level.

mage usually sets the highest sap cost on a skill, and the lowest time duration on the skill and highest range ( fighter will be right next to you)

The fighters damage versus the mages damage.

is the fighters damage almost the same as the mages? the mage requires skillpoints to get the highest damage and sapload for PvP, yet the fighter requires the highest strength to wield, and the highest damage.

the fighter can crystallize the fear spell and fear immediatly, start whacking, so can the mage

All I want to know, is, does the fighter have significatly more damage, and more armor and resistances, than the mage, with significantly less damage reduction

The fighter can wear jewelry to resist our spells, yet a mage can wear jewelry too, but doesnt protect against pure damage from a melee attack. the only thing the mage has is it's low damage reduction.

Seems like the fighter gets good resistances to both, high armor, high parry and high resistances (Jewelry), yet the mage gets low armor, decent dodge and high resistances(doesnt matter, fighter wont be casting spells).

So the mage relies on pure damage output, but does the mage in this game have high enough damage output to be at a par level with a fighters pure damage output?

Does a mage have the same chance to kill a fighter as the fighter can to the mage?
