Welcome :)

Most of the times that's an issue with you using a "non-standard" gfx chip. Please provide more info.
You can also try to update your graphic drivers, including DirectX and turning Ryzom's graphic options to Direct3D (sometimes OpenGL might help as well but is known to cause problems with recent nVidia drivers and runs worse than D3D on most ATI boards) in the configuration tool (found in the install dir, named ryzom_configuration_rd.exe), avoid the auto setting. Your desktop's color depth should be set to using 32bits, too.

Good luck :)

Thanks for your reply ^^
My desktop settings are at 1024x768 32 bits. I have an IBM laptop with Intel(R) 8285/82855 GM/GME graphics. Kalonline, another mmorpg, runs fine on it.
Hope that helps, as I don't have any more information.
Thanks again.

*waves back*
Intel onboard is a problem, indeed. It's 3D capabilities are *cough* somewhat prehistoric, no offense.
You might also encounter another error message, stating that no AGP memory could be allocated....
There's a thread in the tech forums somewhere about that sort of gfx chips, which you should check, but you can try some stuff up front:
update the drivers, run the config tool and try switching to OpenGL first (D3D if that won't work) and check all 4 boxes in the advanced graphics configuration, lower the texture size.
Hopefully that will get you started so that you can try and raise the lowered configs one by one until it refuses again or begins running like a Ferrari on Diesel...it won't be as much eyecandy as possible anyway.
Oh, and if it does start up don't worry.. the login screen is windowed no matter what you set the graphics to in the config ;)

Good luck :)

Thanks for help.
However, when i try to open ryzom config i get an error message:

Error reading the file client.cfg: File "C/Documents and settings/Jay/client.cfg" not found.

Hmm: back to the drawing board.

I will try downloading the latest upgrade for the embedded intel graphics system and the bad news is that I have been told I can't change the graphics card on this laptop.

Ok I have managed to get into the configuration and have put all the display settings down to minimum. However, when I click open gl the button for apply remains greyed out.
Any further help much appreicated. I would love to try this game ^^

I´m not an expert as Xollox is, but I´d say from the looks of it your system graphics card does not support Open GL. :(

Sorry, but most laptops have this problem, look to the technical forum for more help.
