Cant even get to the launcher

ok, so i download via bittorrent, extract and run the installer, and BAM, that nasty little window that says ryzom encounters a problem and needs to quit.
Ok no problem, this kind of stuff has happened before, so i
update vid and audio drivers, removing old ones first and cleaning up old files and registry entrys before installing the new drivers
run a deep virus and spyware scan with 4, count em 4 apps,
xsoft, spyware terminater, adaware, and AVG antivirus
defragment my drive
ensure direct x is up to date
run a memtest
reinstall the game
same problem.
nforce3 board, nvidia 6600gt, 1g of ram, XP sp2, and tons of drive space.
What am i missing here? have never had this problem with
an install on this machine before
one thing of note, there are two ryzom related files on my desktop that i believe are from bit torrent, that i cant delete because they are constantly in use, attempting to take them out in safe mode causes the machine to crash...
any ideas?

i've also forwarded the required ports.
just now i've gotten those files deleted via a safe mode that took some effort to get working
Only option that is left is downloaded again in hopes that the file was corrupted, in any case, does anyone know how to use the supplied md5 file to check the dl integrity?

ok, completely cleaned everything up, downloaded again, and installed. Same problem. This time i tried the recover utility in the ryzom directory, which failed, and gave me this message

now, there is only one user account on this machine, and that is the administrater (owner) account, i have more then enough disk space, i made the page file bigger (1g-2g), which changed nothing, and i can find no program/process that is accessing anything that has to do with ryzom...
any help would be appreciated.

If you're logged in with admin rights and there's enough diskspace for a) Ryzom, b) swapfile c) tempdirs and cachings, then I'd try by disabling the software on your machine that could actually prevent access.
Usually that's any kind of AV software and sometimes personal software/desktop firewalls.
In some rare cases you simply might not have access, as the message suggested, with things having being modified by third party security or tweaking software that was trusted an inch too far. Look at the security settings of the folders in question. (Filesystem security settings are not a built-in option to look at or modify in XP Home by default.)
If you get as far as to the launcher itself, I'd first run the "Check Data" option prior to actually logging in - also with AV disabled. Just to make sure...
If that doesn't help, I'd suggest logging onto Klients to get more direct feedback.
Good luck
